Found some old speakers and now I have some questions!
I was going through one of my closets and stumbled across a pair of MB Quart 5 1/4 with competition crossovers that I have long forgotten I had, my old hobby........

Now my question is, what is the story with a factory Infinity stereo? I don’t have the budget for a new head unit, but am going to fit these into the dash. They will show the amp (is there a separate amp for the speakers on this system?) 4 ohms, what is the factory speaker load? Can a separate amp be added to the system and still keep the factory head unit? Is there any issues with hissing or hum doing so? I think I can still get ahold of one of my old PPI Art series amps, my brother has 2 that I know of.... to do this. Also, does the factory unit have any type of crossover? Does it use RCA’s (or some kind of line level outs) or speaker level outputs?
I know, tons of questions, but it has been a LOOOOOONG time since I have dabbled in car audio. Honestly, I like the sound of the system in it, it is loud enough, and the clarity is OK, imagining is OK as well, for a Jeep. Nothing is going to sound like a live performance or a good home system for that matter, but a serious improvement will happen if carefully planned out. Plus, I LOVE fooling with this stuff!
Seriously, any advise will be greatly appreciated, this is going to be fun! Thanks, Matt

there are no RCA's in the factory unit so i used an RCA line converter for my subs wired into the factory subwoofer after the factory amplifier (I believe) and it sounds awesome! Hope that helps and i believe you can just plug your speakers in to the factory wiring and it should work fine
I think they should sound pretty good, they have never been installed, and while the stock speakers aren't bad, I feel these will sound better, I just need to get out and install them! The specs are decent on them and I have used MB's in several systems, but this was all back in the late 90's, I know there are probably better speakers now, but these are paid for.
Someone did a write up on the factory amp awhile back. Do a search. The factory sub is a dual 2 ohm voicecoil sub, I have a feeling the other channels will be the same. The MB Quarts would sound way better though
Thanks Ryan, I have been looking and yes there is a couple great write ups on this. I agree, the MB's will sound great, but now I'm thinking about going a little bigger, new HU, amp, new sub....... another mod for my Jeep!
