Fuse and relays for installing a Rubi 44?

Default Fuse and relays for installing a Rubi 44?

I will be installing a pair of Rubi axles in my Sahara in the next week or two and I'm trying to get everything I need together. I've read through several threads about it, but I haven't found what size fuses or relays need to be used. I'm going to order the wiring harness for the lockers and disco from Quadratec. Does it come with the needed relays? Where is the best place to tap into for power?

Are you planning on using the OEM controls? Or, will your control scheme be all aftermarket? It appears that the OEM fuse for the lockers is located @ "M3" in the fuse panel. It shows to be a 20A fuse for front and rear. So one could assume that each locker anly draws less than 10A. If you have an Ohm Meter, you could use a formula from Ohm's Law to estimate the current. The formula is: E / R = I. Where E = volts ( 12 ). R = resistance. And I = amps. Just simply take a reading ( with your Ohm Meter ) accross the two wires that connect to the coil of the locker. Then plug that number into the equation. You realy need this information before you can decide on wire size for the harness. And you need this information for relay and fuse sizes also. As for the power source. The M3 fuse holder would be the best that I could recomend. Although it may be a job to get it from there. "ronjenx" has done a very through job at breaking down the TIPM. I'm sure that he would be glad to help you there.

I'm not messing with using the oem switches or trying to connect it to the computer. I've been looking at the switches that are similar to the ARB switches at OTRATTW. He has 20a rated relays there also, as well as some in line fuses with covers.

I pick up the axles next week so I'll have to get that resistance measurement then. Is there a chart here somewhere for nominal wire size?

I had the cover off of my fuse block yesterday looking at it. It's the only clean place under the hood. I don't know if I want to risk running a wire from there and messing up the seal around the fuse block. Could I just run power from the battery and use some inline fuses?

Your best bet is probably to go completly aftermarket on the install. You will be just fine tapping power from the battery. As for the wire size, I would recommend using #14 awg. This wire is the perfect size for working with. And is capable of handling a 15 amp load. Should be more than enough. And 15 / 20 amp relays should be enough also. But you still need to narrow down the fuse size to a safe margin.
