I understand that the JK has H13 bulbs/sockets.
DS says the "Philips Xtreme Power H13" will be the bulb to buy when they're on the market.
Well, they are now. And at 40$ a pair, not bad at all.

Did anybody install those bulbs?
Any comment?
Does it compare to some Cibié lights? (I know DS says the Cibié are pretty good...)

At 40$ I think I'll take a shot and see what it looks like...

Thanks!
There are no bulbs for the stock lamps that will come anywhere near the performance of the Cibe E-code lamps even with inferior bulbs in the Cibies.
The stock reflectors are junk.

That's right. It's not the bulb, it's the reflector. Many folks go out and get Silvania Silverstar bulbs thinking it's going to make a huge difference. While the bulb may be a higher wattage and may appear brighter than stock, the visibility is no better.

Neoxxis: Do it right and get the upgrade to Cibie/Wipac/Marchal lights (E-code) headlights and replace the crappy factory wiring for 12 gauge quality wires.

You will NOT regret it.

For the most part, I suspect that people are using the stock switch and wiring to trigger relays on the upgraded wiring. The relays and upgraded wiring then supply higher amounts of current to the lights.

Factory switch. One of the factory headlamp harnesses is cut at the headlamp (L or R) and the wire is connected to the relay and acts as the "switch". Since the relay doesn't draw a high current to turn it on, the factory wiring is fine. In other words, when you turn on the headlights from inside the Jeep using the factory switch, the power that would have ordinarily gone to turn on the factory headlights now turns on the relay. The relay then powers the new headlights through the new wire harness running to the new headlamps. The new headlamps are wired directly to the battery by way of the new relay with higher-quality 12-gauge stranded wire.

I hope this doesn't confuse you even more. It's very simple, but I may not know how to properly explain it in words.

I installed those lamps based on this thread in fact back when. Cheaper than a full upgrade and much improved visibility with no blue rice-burner-ness. I can't compare them to a Cibie setup and doubt they're close but for $40 I consider this a nice upgrade. BTW, They're in an '07 that I purchased about 20 months ago and haven't burned one out yet. (Hope I don't jinx myself!)

Why do you say that? What would you gain there? Since that wire actually goes straight to the battery you are tapped to the battery anyway, just a little further away. Why not tap right at the battery where there are lugs set up for that. Why would you want to maybe compromise your charging source.

ok...so the downfall is the stock reflectors. what happens when you buy Cibie E codes and put HIDs in those reflectors? Does that make pure awesomeness?
