help with 6 disc
I bought a 6 disc w/sirius for my 07 JK. The HU is from an 08 Grand. I removed the stock single disc non sirius unit. And plug in the new unit. It powers up and runs through the changer, screen is blank then shuts off. the HU is black no lights nothing. I hit the load disc it powers on flashes loading disc , I can load one and then it powers off. No clock no power pushing the power on nothing. Did I screw up and buy the wrong hu for a wrangler or is it something else. I have discounted the battery and the headunit a couple times and it does the same thing everytime. The HU looks brand new and was supposed to be only in the grand less than 100 miles the upgraded to Mygig. Any Help would be great.
Thanks

Not sure if 08 JGC's use the same CAN bus or not. All HU's are NOT plug and play. You might post up what model # and some details about the radio - might be able to help you find out if it'll work or if its just borked.
the part # is 05064922AE If that will help anyone answer my question. Other wise I guess I will try to sell to a grand owner and try to get a wrangler HU.
since the grands and the commanders came out before the Wranglers they may be running the Low Speed CAN Bus whereas the Wranglers run the High Speed CAN bus..
on powerup the radio announces itself to the CAN.. if the CAN doesnt recognize it or does not like what it sees it will either respond with an error code to the device.. or not respond at all..
if the Radio doesnt get a satisfactory response from the CAN it will power itself off and go into BCM standby mode - which is you can eject a disc but do nothing else...

the CAN bus is basicilly the computer network that the Vehicle runs on...all the electronic devices in the vehicle communicate with one another via the CAN... chrysler used 2 versions of CAN one that is a low speed model and one that is a High speed model... I dont remember exactly the specific years and models for each.. but if I remember right the High speed started being used in vehicles designed 2006 and newer... note not vehicles BUILT 2006 and newer but new designs afer 2006.. so the grand cherokee and commander had designs back a few years they may still be running Low speed CAN... but the JK, as well as the new Libby, new sebring, etc that were designed later use the High speed CAN..
as for the fate of thise 6 Disc units.. you MAY be able to get a stealership to tell you whether it is recognized on the Bus via starscan.. there are diagnostics on the starscan that will show all devices recognized on the CAN regardless of whether they are configed or not.. its worth a shot before you chuck the radio...
my 2008 JK goes back to chrysler as a lemon replacement next week... wonder if they would notice if its 6 disc was replaced with a single disc... LOL
