Default Help with aftermarket light hookup

Tried to wire 55W aftermarket PIAA lights to factory fog light wiring, no go..., flash twice, then stay off...they stay on if the Jeep is not running, but flash and go off when engine starts.

PIAA lights came with wiring harness, but I would prefer to use the factory fog light switch already in turn signal switch. If I splice the OEM black and white wires at the OEM fog light connection on the bumper into the black and white wires leading from the aftermarket relay to the aftermarket in dash switch, then use all the other aftermarket connections from relay to battery, ground, and lights, will that accomplish the correct wiring so the lights will work with factory switch?

Sorry to seem so dull, electronics mystify me. My son was the wizard, he always helped me with these...sure do miss him...anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes, I think. Use the factory wire to activate the PIAA relays and wire the rest using the PIAA instructions. I think that is what you were asking.

Yes, that is what I was asking. I had read a couple of threads about 'activating the aftermarket relay with the hot lead from the factory lights' but was wondering about the exact hookup.

I was thinking that since the PIAA harness had a switched power lead going into the switch, then black and white going out of the switch into the relay, the black and white at the OEM fogs would replace those coming out of the PIAA switch into the relay and power it...

I am not sure about the exact hook up, because I don't know which factory wire is hot (+). If you have a voltage meter or tester determine which wire is hot and use it for the switch power to the PIAA relay.

Is there any harm in hooking up both the black and the white from the OEM fog switch into the relay?

I wouldn't think so as long as you got the polarity correct.

If you use one of the OEM fog light connections to power the relay, what do you do with the other?

The other wire would most likely be the (-) ground. Without seeing what is going on I can only speculate.

Wiring diagram from PIAA lights:

I am thinking that the white and black from one OEM light will replace the red and green (which are actually white and black on the harness) coming from the PIAA switch into the relay...if so, do I connect the other white and black together on the other light to complete the circuit?

You should hook up the lights according to the PIAA directions. Then hook wire #4 into the pos factory fog power wire. Then just leave the PIAA switch on and hide it under the dash so you only need the factory switch to operate the lights. JMO.
