Help! replaced the oem battery

Default Help! replaced the oem battery

I replaced my battery(DieHard Advance Gold) because my headlights were dimming when I had my music turned up. That fixed the problem, but I noticed my bass doesn't hit as hard anymore. Do I have to retune my amp?

Factory amp or aftermarket? If aftermarket how do you have it wired up?

its an aftermarket amp (kenwood x600f powering my front speakers and sub)

Power cables direct to battery or are you pulling power from somewhere else?

Make sure you have a solid ground!

If you are talking about bass hitting hard - you probably need a capacitor before your amp. Usually if the headlamps were dimming it would be because the amp was drawing enough power and reducing voltage enough to dim the bulbs. Since the amp was still hitting before, you were probably losing voltage and that was dimming the lights. The replacement battery is keeping up the volts, but not providing as much power and that is making the bass less powerful.

Car batteries are really not made to provide power other than starting the vehicle. They are supposed to provide massive power for a very short period of time, then all the power should come from the alternator.

Even if your battery can handle the power draws, it is going to significantly reduce battery life. Get a capacitor and wire it up.

Disclaimer - I haven't had an amp in a vehicle for 10 years almost - but the basics should be the same.

Thanks for the input guys but I figured it out ... Replacing the battery restarted my equalizer settings , so I had to redo em. Sounds better now with the new battery.

Those fixes are the easiest.

But since you already burnt through a battery on a 2012 - you still might want to look at a capacitor. Would pay for itself times over - if nothing else that time you are going to need a jump or a cab that doesn't happen.
