It all depends on how loud and 'powerful' you would want your music. The sound power will make the music more audible with with top off or windows down. If you are planning on getting a new head unit then you could get away with not installing an amp to drive your speakers. If you are planning on adding a sub-woofer then you will definitely need an amp to drive that. So if you are not planning on adding a sub, try out the new head unit and speakers. If it is not powerful enough, add an amplifier. If you are one of those "go big or go home" type of people then add it all. A new HU, new speakers, an amp to drive the speakers, a new sub and enclosure, and an amp to drive the sub

At a bare minimum you'll need a new head unit. Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer are all mid to high price range. Look for it to have at least 50wx4. All of your stock speakers will sound great just with a new head unit pushing them so you wont need to replace those. You'll want subs if want to hear any kind of bass with doors off and top down. The size is up to you but sub size is like tires. If you start with 33's eventually you'll want 35's. Personally I will never buy anything under 2- 12's. And no, I don't cruise down the strip "bumpin" to gangsta rap, I just love to hear every tone and I like it loud. In my opinion, top of the line Subs are Kicker solo barics but Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Sony, Pioneer is a mid-priced sub that sounds great. You'll need to put them in a box which also come in many ways from ported to sealed to plexiglassed. I bought my ported box that holds my 2-12's for about $200. Then you'll need an amp to push your subs. Even though you'll only run your subs off your amp you'll want the option to add more speakers so get a 4 channel amp at about 700-to 1000 watts. With just the sub you can bridge your wiring to utilize all 4 channels on your 2 subs. Finally all the wiring and installation. Don't go cheap on the wires!

That all being said, you did say cheap and even though I told you mid priced items it's still gonna be expensive. Shop smartly, you can get sub boxes at pawn shops! Or if your slightly handy you can research how to build one, they're very easy. All in all you'll drop about $1000 in the above stated. Just my two cents, good luck on your search!

I have 2 alpine 12s type Rs with a alpine 1000 watt amp wired bat 4ohms and the hit hard and sounds amazing but I would love to get two type r shallow mounts and mount them under the back seats so when the tops off I don't need to worry about people stealing them cause they'll be hidden but for now everytime I take the top off I have to take the subs out and it sucks ha. And I'm also looking at alpines av slash nav head unit but first do you know where i could find a box for the back seats that would be great

Why don't you build a cargo area cover. Use wood and cover with automotive carperting. Make sure it secures to the backseat so it can't be folded down, secure to the sides where you bolt the hardtop, and you can leave the back towards the tailgate unsecured. Just lock your tailgate and you won't have to remove your subs. I have 2-12's that I have never taken out because my top was down.

If you do the under seat mounts I'm not sure where to get the box, I would just make it myself.
