Question Help w/backup camera

Put in a backup camera for my JK. When I put it in reverse, the screen goes gray. No static, no writing as in "No signal", nothing. When I put in drive, it goes back to my home screen. My bf put it in, and has checked everything from A to B. He's wondering if the camera itself might be bad.

This may seem incredibly elementary... but... is there a protective cover on the camera that needs to be removed?

Otherwise, post what head unit and what camera it is.

You have to turn the camera “on”, have to go to the dealer or a programmer like JScan to turn it on.
