Unhappy HID 35w or 55w???

OK OK!

I've read through like a million posts about HID installs and I'm now more educated about the warning cancellors and all that good stuff, but I see that you can order a 55w kit which in theory would eliminate the need for a warning cancellor. BUT, some say that only the ballasts are 55w and not the bulbs, so these kits end up not being as bright as the 35w kits with the cancellors.

SO, what's the better option, get the 35w kit with the cancellors for more $$ or just order the 55w kit and be done??

Help please.

I went with 35W with cancelers. They didn't flash but they did buss very loud. I ended up doing the diode fix as well. They still buzz but just initially for a few minutes and it's not nearly as loud.

Hmm, so yours buzzed even with the cancellers?? Interesting.

It seems like the 55w might be the best option, but there's got to be a catch or else there would be more threads on here with people using them.

Anybody?

I can tell u that with the 55w version your bulb temperature (the color) will get washed put some since they are that much brighter. Something to keep in mind if u are wanting more of the blue look with the 6000k. Maybe go up in color one set. That's what I have been told so I just went with the 35w and couldn't be happier. I am running them in cibie headlamps and the cutoff line is still nice and sharp. I added the diodes to my headlamp wiring a while back so it was a plug and play for me

Hmmm, well I'm going more for the maximum performance and not just the blue look, so washing it out a little wouldn't be a concern. However, I would want them to match the fogs if I put the HID kit on them too, so maybe the 35w kit with cancellers would be better for the HL.

When you say you put the diodes on yours do you mean the plug and play cancellers from the company or the Radio Shack do-it-yourself capacitor?

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming!

I put in the cancellers first and the buzz was loud so I decided to try the radio shack diode method. That reduced the buzz dramatically. I know others have just put in cancellers. I purchased mine from vvme.

have you put in a capacitor? It doesn't matter if you're going with 35w or 55w because you're not directly powering the balllasts with the stock wires. I think the canceller device is just a resistor or capacity wrapped in a nice package to bring the wattage up to the expected level, 55w.

I used the radio shack do-it-yourself ones. I have the ARB/IPF upgraded wiring harness which i have used on other vehicles with great performance. I originally went with this so I could run higher than stock wattages on bulbs (75-80w). I had to add the diodes and all to that. I get no buzz what so ever from the ballasts. I have done my headlights and fogs without a hitch. I just got in another set to do my Hella 4000s as well.
