Default HID or no light at all?

So I was driving home at night, just thought I'd see how the halogen high beams worked in my HID kit, (turns out they're awful) so I flipped to them, but when I flipped back, I had no more HID low beam... no low beam at all.... Which is strange because the kit has worked with no problems for about 2 weeks now... Wondered if anyone else has had this problem... I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but thought I'd put this up incase someone knew right away what to look for.... and I grew tired of driving with my daytime running lights and fogs after about 2 minutes.

Check your fuse. HID's, while drawing only 35 watts, draw a lot more than that for the first 30 seconds while the ballast gets cranking.

I went to check that this morning, and, just for the hell of it, tried the lights... they worked just fine... Even when switching back and forth between high and low beams.. I'm really at a loss with this one now.

JKCanada,

I second the "what kit are you using" comment. I'm in Canada as well, and the reason that kept me from buying an HID kit is because we have the standard daytime running lights on ALL canadian Jks. Is your JK a US model? If not, can you please explain what you did to disable the daytime running lights for your HID kit to work.

Thanks!

I've got the "Vision X" H13 kit... It's only got an HID low beam, the high beam is a halogen. That way you keep your DRL because they're just your highbeams at 50%. (I think it's 50%) As long as you don't plan on using the highbeams ever, then this kit is great... The highs are way out of aim though, and there's no way to correct them. But with the amount of light from the lows, you really shouldn't ever want to use them.

this is interesting did they make a kit that used both hi/low Hid lights and where yours plug and play or did you have to alter any wires and anything

I do believe they make a kit that offers high and low beam HID, but in Canada, we have to have daytime running lights... and HID's cannot be run at half power. So I'm not sure how this would work. I don't know if it would kill the HID's, or if we'd just lose the DRL's. My kit was not just plug and play though, we had to add a capacitor, and a diode into the mix to make everything work. Someone on here has posted exactly what to do, with a great diagram. Not a tough install, it's just hard to find a spot to mount the ballasts. Mine ended up behind my grill. Right now I'm starting to have problems with my lights not coming on at times, they did it about a week ago, and now again tonite.. But then when I tried them a couple hours later, they worked fine! So I'll let you know when I figure that one out.
