Default High power alternator options...

So I emailed Mechman alternators to see what they had available for us JKU guys and here's what they had to say.

Those vehicles have a pretty low idle speed, and a relatively small crank pulley, so I generally recommend either the 170 amp or the 240 amp S series unit if you want really good output below 800 engine RPM.* The 320 amp unit starts making good output at about 800 rpm engine speed and above.* (if you require a lot of power, but also want good output at idle, there are power programmers available to increase the idle speed of the vehicle to 800 rpm if necessary)* All three S series units are pretty much indestructible, even in hot climates. All the S series units feature our twin heavy duty internal rectifiers, oversize charge post, billet aluminum overdrive pulley, cutting edge 6 phase hairpin stator technology, and 12 massive diodes.* 6 phase technology allows for outstanding low RPM output, in a moderately sized housing that bolts right in to the stock location.* All S series units are made in the USA and come with a 2 year warranty.

Here’s a link explaining what makes these vehicles so awesome:**http://www.billetalternator.com/inde...advantage.html

Stock on the 07's is 140 or 160 amp already if I'm not mistaken.
With the Hypertech tuner my RPM kicks up under high current pulls like winching to 1600 rpm.
Plus I'm running a big ole stereo system.
So far so good.
Unless you are gonna run a welder or 2500 watt plus system the stock one should be ok.

Don't get me wrong, I love the mech man stuff and plan on using on my next big system wagon. But the jeeps alts are pretty good IMO.

Yeah that's why I looked into them. I run 1200w on my subs now...on top of the factory 700 or how many ever watts. Then I want to add lights and a winch so the extra powered would be needed. Stock on the newer ones is 160a but more could always be used.

I hear ya on that. I was gonna go with a XS power battery if i get more power or the Alternator.
They are badass alternators, JP runs 5 in his suburban supporting 40k watts!!
Something i ran into with my system was problems with the stock wiring. My first system was only 500 watts and i had light dimming issues.
Voltage would pull down to 11 volts on a long bass note.
I went thru and rewired the big 3 with 0 Guage and ran it all the way back to my amps. Also did the 0 guage ground off battery to its on spot on body.
I have no light dimming what so ever now and my volt meter only drops to the upper 12's when the bass hits and recovers alot faster.

Lol! It's kinda a mess right now. I'm planning on making a seperate board for the amps that hide the wires more when my hand recovery from surgery.
