I got the Trail Guide in my JK and it's nice. Not the best as far as options, like bluetooth and all. But it works great. Like the extra speakers. Seems to help at highway speeds.

Have not done any topo maps or anything like that yet. I bought another Trail Guide for my son's JK and I know he has done all kinds of stuff with it. He said it was a great birthday present. I told him he was lucky I found one on E-Bay or he would have gotton underwear.

thanks, I was curious if you can use it on the trails to show the course you took so you can find your way back if lost?

The GPS on my boat does that and it's a great feature. If I hook into some fish while trolling, I can go right back to the same spot I was at when they hit.

Default check out ability to upload / download tracks

When i looked at Trail Guide several years ago, i was very surprised to find out that it did not have the ability to display uploaded tracks. that means that if you have a database of stored tracks from previous runs (or you go to any number of websites with uploadable tracks), that you cannot put them on to the trail guide and use them to follow the trail. there is a way to trick it to show one and only one stored track but i do not recommend it as a gps.

the Best Garmins I know of for this type of application are the 60Cx, 60 Csx, 76Cx, 76 Csx or the 276c. the streetpilots, nuvis, and Colorado do not do this at all or do it very poorly.

so if you want to record, store and retrieve tracks with Garmins, i would stick with one of the models mentioned above.
