Default Ignition Switch Getting NO Power!

Hey Jeep owners, first post here, and I am completely stumped! Literally one day out of the clear blue sky, my Jeep stopped starting. Nothing outta the ordinary happened, just one morning I went out to start it, and nothing!. Did some digging around and testing, and turns out that somehow the ignition switch is not getting any power.

I checked everything possible, even replaced some prime candidate fuses just in case, and still nothing! I gave it 12 volts directly to the wire, and it started right up without a hitch. But otherwise, the switch is getting no power.

Right now I have the ignition wire connected to the cigarette lighter wire, so that I can at least start the Jeep, and it starts flawlessly when it’s getting that 12 volts, but that’s obviously not a permanent solution, and I gotta figure out why the ignition switch randomly stopped getting power. I’m simply out of ideas!

No clue whatsoever why this happened all of a sudden. Literally nothing happened, it just stopped working one day. Anyone have ANY clues as to what it might be...?

Battery is good, fuses and relays are good, wire and wire harness connections are all goochie as well...

Thanks for any potential advice or solutions!!!

What year is your JK?
Is fuse M27 on your JK the fuse for the ignition switch?
Which wire are you applying 12v to? (Color, and location on ignition switch)

Sorry! My Wrangler is a 2016 Willys.

The fuse for the ignition switch that I changed is J17. Is M27 the fuse I shoulda looked at? Cause Googling around it seemed like the J17 was the one to go after.

I should say, I’m not a car whiz or anything. I know a little and research online for the rest. If it’s outside my skill scope, I won’t do it. But this seemed feasible enough, and I did it get started, so I dono...

I am applying the wire from the cigarette lighter - blue and pink - to the main ignition wire - black. It is the black wire that comes direct from the wire harness that plugs into the back of the steering wheel. I can take a pic later on when I’m back home if that helps, but that’s all I did...

Yea, that’s what I read elsewhere too. Gonna definitely try that out!

Thanks for the advice!

You called it my man! That was the issue. Swapped the fuse out, and voila! Started right up without any tapping into another power source.

Good stuff!! Thanks again...

Next step would be to determine why the fuse blew.

Yes indeed, that is my next mission. I have this aftermarket auto lock and keyless entry system I had installed, from A1 Electric, and I think the wiring of that, plus a possible loose wire in connection with that, in the passenger side door somewhere, came into play to contribute to this.

That’s an assumption, and I’ll start there first I guess...
