Installing brake controller and seven pin socket (2007)
I need to equip my 2007 Unlimited Rubicon with a brake controller (Tekonsha Prodigy) and seven pin trailer plug. I've looked through my manual (useless) and on-line but haven't come up with a definitive answer on what's involved. Does anyone know if the vehicle is prewired for the brake signal and where to connect everything (on both ends)? I have the factory towing package with it's four flat wiring.
Unfortunately, Tekonsha does not have any plug-in harnesses for Jeep vehicles. Installing the Prodigy in my Suburban was a snap (literally).

I just did this. Get the Mopar 7-pin wiring harness. It fits your rig exactly. Make sure to unplug your 4-pin harness. You can leave it in place, but you won't get a right-turn signal at your trailer if you do.
The 7-pin harness gives you the blue wire for the brake controller, but you'll also need to run a ground, a positive (with breaker), and a wire to the brake pedal. If you look above the brake pedal, you'll see a white wire with tan stripes. This is the one to patch into to get your +12 for the brake.

Thanks for the info. It pretty much confirms what I feared. Why they didn't take the simple step of pre-wiring the vehicle when equipped with a tow package is beyond me. Well, I guess it's not... dollars and cents!

I installed the wiring for the 7 pin sans brake controller and a hitch, and it only took about 30 - 45 minutes to do. I imagine the brake controller wouldn't take too much longer, so you're probably only looking at 1-1.5 hours. I recommend getting anti-rust sealant if you plan on mounting your connector to the frame. You'll also need some RTV sealant for the firewall grommet. You can find the kit where I got it here:

Awesome, thanks for the link! I know it won't be that bad but it just irks me that so much effort (and cost) is involved. I guess I'm just spoiled by my previous Prodigy installations!
They gave me a four pin connector. Jeep does not prewire for a seven pin connector as the heaviest trailer they want you to pull is 2,000# and trailers that light generally do not have trailer brakes or need a charging line.

I installed my wiring harness last week. I installed it per the Mopar instructions, but I will be re-installing it my own way. You see, it is almost as easy to route all of the wires through the passenger compartment! I propose:
1. Remove the looming/shielding from the +12v, ground, and the blue brake wire.
2. Cut the fuse from the +12V wire, leaving at least 3" of wire on the fuse holder.
2. Find a grounding point by the rear bumper (most of the bolts back there will provide sufficient ground), cut the ground wire to length, attach a snap spade connection, and connect it to the bolt.
3. Run the +12V and blue wires up through the grommet above the left tail light enclosure, along the driver's side of the Jeep (below all of the carpet and plastic), and up to the firewall area.
4. Coil up the blue wire (or connect it to the brake pedal)
5. Run the +12V wire through the driver's side firewall hole, across the firewall, and to the battery area.
6. Twist the +12V wire and the fuse holder wire together, solder, and wrap with electrical tape. I have not done this yet, but you might need to splice in some extra 16AWG wiring between the +12V wire and the fuse holder - I am not sure whether or not the wire from the Mopar harness is long enough for this new route.
This way, you don't have to worry about heat, road debris, etc., affecting your wiring.

Just did this-- x2 on getting the MOPAR 7 pin harness. Great choice on the Prodigy-- have one on my super duty too-- easy to install, use and does a great job of stopping the trailer. About a two hour install total.
