Installing New Speakers
Sorry for the radio silence, guys... Been working ~18 hours a day for the last week
Needless to say, that hasn't left me a lot of time to work on the Jeep. I got home around 1 am on Tuesday and just said f* it... if I don't do it now, it's not going to happen. So I sat there for about 30 minutes and played with the settings on the amp.
I've turned the gains all the way down on the amp (I previously turned them all the way down on the LOC). It helped with the sound, but now I'm wondering if maybe the system is under powered.
It definitely sounds better than it did before I changed the settings on the amp, but, to be honest, it still doesn't sound good. In my opinion, it sounds about the same as stock, but I can't turn it up as loud without noticeable distortion.
Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue - but when playing the radio, I'm getting a lot of noise coming through that I don't get when I play music from another source.
The other thing is it still sounds like something is wrong with the front driver's side mid - it almost sounds like clipping when I turn the volume up, but I don't hear it in any of the other speakers. I'm thinking that it could be either one of two things:
1. I didn't install the speaker pod correctly
2. The speaker is hitting the pod somehow
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I wish I could be of more help, really... It just doesn't make much sense how it doesn't sound good...
Maybe you're not grounded on the amp??
What gauge did you wire up at?
If one speaker is blown or something and your getting only distortion from that one when boosting the gains try removing that one from the mix and see if you can get it gained harder with no distortion from the others...
as soon as I get my damn State refund I am pulling the trigger on MM's and PDX-4f....
Should be any day now...
I just got my 3 JL12w6v.1's back today... I need to wire up that amp and test to make sure they is no issue with the work... I trust the guy who did em but you know how that goes... I also have the concept set up for the custom enclosure guys... but I am holding off because I am thinking I really should line-x the tub and the box... If I have the box made for the tub with carpet it wont be the same with the line-x and then the fitment might be off and thats guna BLOW...
Hate how shit is adding up sooo damn fast... yikes!
I also need to figure out what I am going to do about power... I am prob going to end up jumping up to a mean grean 240 amp alt... but that will be able to be a little further down the line I hope, so long as I upgrade my Big 3 prior/with the install of the amps and shit...
PDX + interiors can go in with out any of the subs and shit first... but I want to make sure I get these subs wired up and tested out some time soon...
I used 4 gauge for the amp, so that should be sufficient.
It seems like it's just that one speaker that's giving me issues. I'm going to remove it and see how I can get the other 3 sounding (once I finally have the time).
If that doesn't work, I think I might just cut out the LCQ and go with an aftermarket head unit.
To be honest though, I just haven't spent enough time with the system to really figure it out.
You're right, this stuff adds up fast.

Yea I am prob going to use 4 gauge for the PDX too... but for the MV1507... 4 gauge might not be enough...
I need to track down a cable flow chart again...
ughh I wish I had the $ to just get it all done right now...
I am starting to get ancy... If I can unload these RHCP tickets, and get my State return back already... then I can prob Line-X the tub, and do the interiors and amp for now, and plan the build for the box and whatnot... have that lined and get on with the boooom...
Shit I have:
New head unit...
JL 12w6v1's -fixed/refoamed and ready
Alpine V12 1507 - waiting patiently to cause havoc
3 huge bags of polyfill...
What I need still...
MM6501's
MM651's
Alpine PDX-4F
all the install goodies...
Custom Box/amp rack
Upgrade the Big 3
Diehard Platnium - Sears rebadge or whatever Battery.
FatMat for the rollbar and sound pods up front...
What I think I need to add...
Line-X tub
Line-X custom box/amp rack
Mean Green Alternator...
the "think I need" part is whats going to be the most expensive parts

Also after this is all installed... I am going to want to get a Gobi Rack... so I have room for gear again...

hahahaha FML... and FMW -(wallet)
BOB!!!
How are things going??? I am still wondering if you got this sorted out and if you finally got some good tunes cranking!!
I am getting worried that you gave up !!

it seems like a great first step with room left for adding an amp later on
i actually don't mind the head unit which is out of character for me as in all previous non-lease vehicles i have always swapped out the head unit for something better
but with the satellite radio and the bluetooth and steering wheel controls it was worth giving the factory head unit a try

Did you ever get your system set up?
I, unfortunately, have no new updates. We acquired a company in CA and I have been commuting there from FL every week. I've been so busy, this is my first time back on the site in months; I have had no time to work on the Jeep
.I'm hopeful that we've found a full-time CFO so I can finally relax a little bit. I'm hoping to finish the install in the next month or two. This is probably the longest install ever.
You'll probably be done before me.

I got everything in... and the day before I was going to install, I rolled my truck :(
Everyone is ok, and that is the only thing that actually matters, but the truck is gone :(
Damn... sorry to hear that. Glad everyone is okay though.
