Default Installing New Speakers

I'm installing some new speakers tomorrow and was wondering whether people used the wiring adapters or soldered the new speakers to the existing wires.

I replaced all my speakers like a month after I bought the Jeep. The speakers should come with wires and the connections for them. I cut off the speaker harness and spliced in the new wires to the existing wires using butt connectors and it sounds great! There is a wire color chart somewhere on the internet. I googled it and found it pretty easy. What speakers did you get and are you changing the Head Unit?

Thanks. I was thinking of splicing the wires and soldering to the factory wiring - although I'm not sure if I want to change the wiring later.

I got Polk MM6501's for the front and Polk MM 651's for the soundbar. I will be replacing the head unit at some point, but for now I'm just swapping out the speakers.

Will do. Seeing that you're local, you can check them out once I get them in if you want.

I am going to buy the same speakers... are you running the infinity system?
I have an aftermarket head unit, pushing about 20 watts RMS and 50 watts max... I have the infinity amp pushing whatever and to be honest I do not think thats going to be enough to push the speakers if I just swap them in... I am thinking because of this of adding an 4 channel amp... so I can rock something around 75 watt RMS due to the specs on the speakers...

When are you doing the install ??

AHH whopse ****

looks like wrong model POLK AUDIO DB651S 6.5" + DB6501 6.5" is what I am doing...

You likely want to check out what the stock head unit is putting out too...

those speakers are 3 ohm's

I was pretty sure stock was either 2 or 4 ohms.

I've never actually heard the MM's. I've heard the DB's, and they sound really good to me. People that have the MM's say they blow the DB's away. Something to consider if you haven't ordered them already.

My speakers got in last night, so I'll be doing the install this weekend (hopefully tomorrow). I'm putting Polly Fill in everywhere and using Dynamat on the soundbar to cut down on vibrations.

As far as the rest of the audio system, I have the stock head unit without the Infinity amp. I do plan on replacing the head unit and amp at some point, but I'm trying to hold off on the head unit given the way they seem to be going at the moment - I may just settle for a cheap head unit and get a nice one later. I also plan on adding a sub in the future.

As far as the specs on the speakers the 6501's and 651's both have continuous and peak power handling of 125 w and 250 w, respectively.

I know it won't sound as good as it could, but at least it's better than what's currently in there.
