The 3W Oznium LED bolts I posted should be here today. I'll try and get them installed this week or at least illuminate them off the battery for a visual, they are 3W so they should be plenty bright even in direct sun light.

ok so all done with the install. pretty straight forward: drilled a hole to mount the lights and a smaller one to run the wire. i ended up doing the side marker turn signal mod as well, so i tapped into the same black wire to run these. i chose a slightly different light merely because the orginals were too rectangular for my taste. i also sprayed a single coat of vht nightshade on the lights. its just enough to hide the amber lens but doesn't affect light output. all in all i am pretty pleased with how they turned out, and i believe they have achieved the desired result. they can be seen from head on night or day and allow oncoming traffic to see my turning intentions. so here are some photos of the finished product.

So tap the black wire? I'm thinking a few of the 3/4" in the front bumper to get a nose out in traffic and show people where I want to turn. Rears for brake lights will be easy but same concept- increased visibility since I'll admit to spending most of my time on the road.

I tapped the black wire cuz I did the side marker into a turn signal mod. If you want to tap into the factory turn signal, tap into the bottom wire coming off the factory plug. White & grey for driver side and white & green for passenger side I think.

JCDriller did you ever get this going? I've been wanting to do the same thing for a while now, using the same Ozniums you linked. I have rear swing-out spare mount with gas cans both sides, and the brake lights/turn signals kind of have horse-blinders on because of this.

Can we just tap into the stock brake light wiring? Anything else needed (relays)?

Thanks

Poison Spyder makes small led lights. I know they make clear and amber but I dunno about red. U can get 2 or 3 wire setup. I got 2 wire set up to replace my front turns only so they no longer function as a running lamp

Yea, I did. I actually removed my drivers side can mount and have just 2 rotopax mounted at this time. The LED works great, however, due to the way the rear tail lights function it does come on with the brakes. That being said if the brakes are applied along with a right turn signal it flashes so it's always working as a turn signal.

This is a good photo of the drivers side one (no longer installed)

What I was wanting to do is use a couple of the amber-colored LED bolt lights in the rear bumper as turn signals, and a couple of reds as aux brake lights.

But it sounds like the way the wiring is set up, I'll be able to get the red's to blink as turn signals, but I probably won't be able to wire it such that the orange function as turn signals and the reds function as brake lights.

I'm not opposed to fiddling around to try to make it work, but I haven't bought the ambers yet because I don't necessarily want to if it clearly isn't going to work.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Aux turn and brake lights in the bumper, that sounds great. I'd look at tapping similar wires as the trailer wiring does to see if that isolates the amber from the red. Fyi- you can pick up those LED signals from eBay for $8/ pair. They're offered in regular (on/off) as well as a 3 wire config (off, turn, brake). They're more affordable to tinker with than the poison spider and basically the same thing without your pocket being significantly lighter.

If you get it setup, I'd certainly follow the thread because it wouldn't hurt to put some extra signals in the rear for people not paying attention.
