Default Inverter installation

I am jjust looking to get some opinions. I am installing a 600 watt pure sine inverter (1000 watt surge) that I am planning to put under the passenger side seat. I should be able to raise it up an inch to avoid any water issues and it does have a gfci built in. I bought 4 gauge welding wire and plan on running the wire to the battery through the passenger side firewall (shortest distance). I bought a 100 amp breaker as opposed to an in-line fuse. Is that a problem? Should I also add a fuse? Thanks in advance for your response

According to the chart I looked at, ( http://www.directwireusa.com/Resourc...IDE%202016.pdf), #4 AWG welding cable is good for 100 amps and 50 feet.
You will not use that length, so you should be covered.

I put my breaker at the battery on the positive side, and ran a ground from the inverter back to the battery negative post. I chose not to ground through the body.

Do some more research on line regarding cable size and ampacity. Don't use just one source for your decision making.

What ronjenx said. I also used welding cable because it's very flexible and has a tough insulating layer on it.

I used an old set of Jumper Cables to hook my inverter (under passenger seat) to the battery terminals. It's not failed me yet and I have ran 14 strands of lights in a Christmas Parade, a plethora of gadgets and also an electric chainsaw on a 50ft cord to cut firewood on a camping trip!

Harbor Freight 750 Watt Inverter.

Just curious as to how you decided on a 100 amp breaker. I'm not saying you are wrong, just wondering where the number came from.

1000/12=88 and rounded up. Do you think I should go smaller?

The circuit breaker, or fuse in other installations, is there to protect the circuit, not the appliance.
Your max load may be 88 amps, so the breaker has to be able to carry more than that before it blows.
However, the wires have to be able to carry more than the breaker will allow. The breaker needs to blow before the wires get hot.

Look up the capacity of your #4 welding wires at the length you will need for your installation.

I wasn't sure if you should use the rated watts 600 or peak 1000. I guess the manual for the inverter should provide a recommended fuse type and rating.

From everything I have read, my set-up should be good. I am thinking I may go to 3 gauge wire instead of 4 though. Thanks for your help!

I have one of these under my passenger seat. Makes things easy. Well worth the $ Jeep Wrangler JK JKU Under Seat Bracket (with mounting options) | eBay
