iPhone4 finally works.......kinda
So I just installed the latest version on my MyGig and the new OS 4.2.1 on my iPhone. Well it's definatly an improvement from 4.1 where it didn't even recognize the phone, but now I believe it's a MyGig problem with thier latest update and I will explain why. My friend just got the new mygig installed because the old one craped out and it had an old version on it 1.22 or something, his new iPhone4 with 4.2.1 on it worked flawless with blutooth on voice control and all, but he decided to update his deck since I had the cd burt already yesterday he through it in and updated. Well he now had the same problem as I did, it only connects when the adress book has been downloaded and sometimes it decides to drop in the middle of a conversation. Not sure if this is unique to me but the same thing happened to my buddy so it can't be coincidence.....anyone else experiencing the same problem?
I would be wary of a fix from the dealer. Chrysler/Jeep may have a beta version of the latest software available but running a beta introduces other issues as well. The only other possibility is to downgrade your radio to an older version but that doesn't work for everyone. You don't need the dealer to downgrade your uConnect unit though.
I agree with PAS that the radio is the issue. The uConnect software itself doesn't fully support the bluetooth standard. When Apple released IOS4, they finally got smart and decided to implement a 'universal' operating system for their devices. This included supporting a bunch of different languages within the same OS version, rather than having a different version for each language. In order to support the characters for all languages with Bluetooth - particularly Chinese - they moved from using one byte characters to two byte characters. Doubling the size of each character to two bytes isn't something the uConnect software currently handles (particularly for English), which is why you have trouble uploading your phonebook from your phone, getting the 'friendly name' for caller ID to display and you drop calls because the phone tries to pass too many characters and the radio loses its handshake (connection). The uConnect software just doesn't know how to deal with any of this, although the Bluetooth hardware in the uConnect unit fully supports it.
The manufacturer (Harman Becker) of the MyGig units is supposedly going to release an update in January that will fix the bluetooth issues.
Some software developers will take every possible known shortcut they can and it's really irritating.
I'm trying to be patient until January when the update releases.

What you are saying makes sense but why did 1.22 work perfect? I can't wait for the fix as it's driving me nuts, unless I'm on a long trip somewhere I unpair the u co nect because it's just annoying otherwise
I paired my laptop with my uConnect radio and can run an iPhone emulator and see the issues happen with a network sniffer. I did this with the most recent firmware version (to confirm the one byte vs two byte information I read on Apple's developer website). I don't want to downgrade to 1.22 and try that firmware version to tell you for sure. Sorry..
I will say that with IOS 4.2.1 and the most recent uConnect version the functionality seems to be improved somewhat. I still don't have caller ID or my address book but I can answer calls with uConnect and actually complete them now.

I am having trouble with the audio files playing through the bluetooth connection. It plays the song to fast and it will start and stop. Useless! I have the new software upgrade from apple but the problems are still there. No music from the iphone.
