I appricate it Silver JK. Do you know if that will work with a 3rd Generation IPod ? & What exactly did you do with the cable for the headunit/ipod input ? (Pictures of your setup maybe?)
Thanks

I use the DLO Transpod. Works great and I don't have to deal with wires hanging all over the place

FireMedicXL - yeah, those work pretty good as well. I used an FM modulator unit from my other jeep in the JK initially but the sound quality (in my opinion) was much better with the direct input from the ipod. Also, because I have a 6 speed I needed something that poked out of the right side 12v supply and went up and a little to the right. The FM unit I was using was too large and low so every time I shifted into fifth the shift lever would bonk it. I'm happy with the set up I have because you can easily see the ipod screen and it's not too much in the way.
All I know is that I have 5500+ songs to choose from at any given time and I wouldn't go back to cd's for anything.
Regards

This is the ultimate: Harman Kardon Drive and Play.
It has to be installed into the rear of the headunit, and you control the ipod with the mushroom knob. There's a small screen that you can mount anywhere that recreates the ipod screen. A friend had one in his BMW, and it was unreal. Its around $200. Steep, but really cool....

Dean,
I hear ya - these are great. My girlfriend has one in her Lexus and it looks and works great. The HK allows full control of the ipod, not just playlists and limited navigation of the menu. The HK unit was the way I was going to go but I ran in to a couple of challenges.
How best to interface w/the factory headunit?
The HK unit can interface with the headunit 3 ways: R/F transmitter (broadcasting a signal you tune the radio to)R/F tranmitter (using an inline box with the antenna cable - you still need to tune to a channel but it's better sounding than the first way) Direct input to headunit (this is the highest sound quality)
Where do you mount control knob and screen?
You need to find a place to mount the control knob and the screen. The control knob would mount perfectly just forward of the cup holders. The screen would look fantastic right were the window controls are in my JK. Also, the screen isn't color and doesn't have the same brightness or resolution as the ipod screen (I'm a picky bastard).
Ok, so now what? I went to the local dealer's parts dept and asked if there was a factory aux input in the back of the headunit. The parts guy assured me that an ipod interface cable would become available shortly. What type of interface (see above) remains to be seen. Ideally it would be a direct input and would allow the headunit to control the ipod. In the interim, I'm sticking with the flexible stalk and little wire thing.

In my old Jeep (2004 Wrangler) i bought an iPOD adapter from Fry's Electronics that used the CD Changer input in the back of the head (the cradle really sucked though). The deck controlled my iPOD as far as volume, on/off, FFWD/REV, and Skip. I have not gotten one for my JK yet, as I heard there might be a MOPAR version, but if there is nothing comming, I might head back to Fry's.

pic(s)
Here is a pic - I used my white cable so that it shows up in the picture. I bought a 1 foot 3.5mm stereo cable at Radio Shack and cut it and soldered a shorter plug. Hope this helps you decide how you want to go.
And just cuz I couldn't resist - here's the silver JK

Question for the two guys running the flexible charger set-ups. Is there also a little output jack(3.5mm) down on the charging plug. I have the belkin unit with that output and I don't have to turn up the Ipod as much (or the head unit as much. When I hook it up as you have and switch back to radio or cd play the volume blasts me a little. My belkin unit doesn't have a flexible arm which I would like to have.
