iPod (Touch) and UConnect - New iOS 4.3
I've searched a bit and I see that some folks had this issue in previous versions of the Apple iPod OS (4.2 and maybe even 4.1). Some folks reported "Error Occurr" messages on their MyGIG systems - and I saw a few with the RES also reporting issues. I understand that there are (or maybe have been) software updates for the MyGIG and NAV systems that address this issue.
For Clarity: The issue is inability to stream (use iPod USB connection with UConnect) on some UConnect systems since the Apple update for iPod iOS 4.2 (and 4.3). Blame seems to be placed on Apple and UConnect (Chrysler) depending on who you believe (irrelevant imho).
Things I've Learned: IF (big IF) you have saved a thing called SHSH Blob from your iPod prior to updating to newer versions of the iOS firmware you have the ability to 'downgrade' back to older versions (which of course could solve your problem - say just rolling back to iOS version 4.0 from 4.2 or 4.3). Of course you would have had to save that SHSH Blob file BEFORE you upgraded iOS versions (I did not - didn't know I would have this issue). At this time if you don't have the SHSH blob for your device at the iOS version you want to downgrade TO, your stuck with 4.3.
If you delete all music off your iPod you won't get "error occurr" but it will connect giving "device empty". Add even one song back, and you'll be back to "error occurr" (I thought this was interesting - maybe pointing to an error in how the stereo reads the file directory. If it's empty, no error but maybe a misdirection in the new iOS code causes the stereo to search endlessly if there is data - I'm ont a programmer - just a speculator).
If you have a MyGIG you may get DIY software update that you can download and then load yourself on your head unit. Great (if/when it comes) if you own one of those units.
My questions:
1) If you have a RES, how do you receive updates? I would assume there is no DIY option like with the MyGIG systems and that I'm stuck with a drive to the dealer for the update (if/when one becomes available).
2) Has anyone found a work around for the RES and the iPod Touch (or iPhone) running the 4.3 iOS that allows proper streaming using USB
Bluetooth doesn't work for me - I get the high-speed playback that some users get with my iPod on Bluetooth.
Anyone able to share their experiences?

You can download the older OS files from a few websites. I'll get the link off of my computer when I'm home.
On the bluetooth issue, lock the device and it should play in normal speed. Sound quality sucks tho
* I went through these problems 2 months ago when I got my '11 Rubi. I downgraded my iPhone 3g from OS 4.2 to 3.2 (I think) and it is working 100%

Well - my problem is that I don't have the SHSH file and have been unsuccessful in getting a downgrade from 4.3 to 4.0. I have gotten back to 4.1 but my backups won't restore and I've got tons of apps (and data for those apps) that I really need to get restored.
I'll share my current status:
Using TinyUmbrella I was able to save an SHSH Blob from my iPod Touch (3rd Generation) from iOS version 4.1. I have no idea how, but for whatever reason it as there and turned out to be valid.
I rolled my iPod back to iOS version 4.1 using TinyUmbrella and attempted a restore after tweaking the backup files (info.plist) but the backup restores all failed (or partially failed). As it turns out the failed backups did dump some data back for some apps (the ones I wanted) and I just reinstalled the other stuff and started getting my settings back the way I wanted them.
I just loaded some music on (about 4Gb worth) and went and tested in my Jeep (2011, RES Radio with UConnect) and I can now sync UConnect with my iPod and play my tunes. Yay me!
So - if you have a SHSH and can roll back to iOS version 4.1 you may find UConnect with USB will work with your iPod again. If you are on iOS version 4.1 or lower DO NOT upgrade your iOS version without FIRST getting TinyUmbrella and using that to save your SHSH so you can roll back to an older version of the iOS should you find it breaks UConnect. For me, UConnect was broken on iOS version 4.2 and 4.3 but works on Version 4.0 (which I couldn't roll back to) and version 4.1.
An I thought that the Apple hardware was supposed to 'just work'. What a PITA.
The real killer about all this? Apple forces iDevices to only run the latest approved Firmware so once you upgrade you have to jump through hacker hoops to roll back or downgrade. There's no reason users shouldn't be allowed to roll their device back to an older version should they dislike performance, compatibility or other things about a new update.

Good to know. Unfortunately, I never saved any blobs for my Touch. Know of anyway to roll it back without them? I've also been wondering how to update the RES software.

Without blobs? Not that I know of. If there were I'd go back to 4.0
As an update. 4.1 doesn't work well. Sometimes it connects, but often errors. My original update was premature.
I'm hoping there is an res update eventually, or that the next iPod update addresses the error.

Another update: 4.1 will connect for me sporadically (very sporadically) making my lovely little iPod Touch worthless in the Jeep. Just gotta love it - I'd like to blame Apple but I fear that at least part of the blame must lie with Chrysler (or the 3rd party developer for the UConnect system - I could be wrong).
None the less - here I sit waiting for a better solution. I can't roll back my firmware because Mr. Jobs is a control freak. I also don't know of any update or way to update my RES stereo system either.
I have sent an e-mail to Chrysler customer service just for good measure - I don't expect to get anything useful back but I'll share here if I do.
Time to wait, now where's my
?

I have an iPhone with 4.3. When I first got my 2011 Jeep with RES and U-Connect it would work sometimes and sometimes not. I decided it should work with just a thumb drive so I put some songs on a thumb drive and it worked perfectly. Then I thought maybe if I put the songs in folders the U-Connect would treat them like playlists (I think you can do this type of thing on a CD). It didn't work. I went back to just a bunch of songs and it still doesn't work.
With the iPhone I had to go into the iPod app and switch it from U-Connect BT to USB (I forget what the actual name of the USB connection is). Sometimes that would work, sometimes not. I haven't tried it with Bluetooth off.
The way I run now is I do Bluetooth streaming. As long as the screen is black the music plays at the right speed. Fortunately, if someone calls it turns off the music. Once the call ends the screen is back to locked before the music starts playing. If you get an alert the music will speed up but lock the screen again and it will soon go back to normal speed.
I think the sound quality is very good. In my wife's Taurus X the Bluetooth streaming will hickup about once a minute.
Her system is similar to the RES as fars as screen capabilities. It is possible to do a user update on the SYNC software by loading it down to a thumb drive, plugging the thumb drive into the USB port and following the instructions. I would think the U-Connect could work similarly.

SYNC and U-connect are totally different technologies..
the U-connect module in the 2011 wranglers (for the RES and REQ) radios is a separate module and not part of the Radio itself....
even when using apple products with Home BT wireless Audio equipment it gets to be a pain with the newer iOS versions.. i think apple perhaps is trying to improve the sound quality of it? not sure...
chrysler will have to flash the U-connect module for any updates to be made. the best thing is to take it to the dealer and see if they will send a message to chrysler...
TSB;s are created by customers reporting problems with systems in their vehicles.. once chrysler realizes there is an issue they will work on a fix and release a TSB, often wit ha software update to go along with it..
BT audio streaming and the USB port are a new item for the chrysler lineup.. the U-connect modules used in the 07-10 wranglers supported only wired iPOD control and BT phone, but not BT music...
being your jeeps are 2011, you can ask for a computer flash when you are in for service... or take it in and explain your U-connect situation and have them make sure your U-connect module is up to date.

Got a reply from Chrysler customer service (sent and e-mail inquiry through the CS link on the owners page).
The representative apparently didn't read past the word uConnect in my message because the reply was a few lines of pasted 'thanks, yadda yadda' and call UConnect support at 1-800-whatever.
I called and was quickly connected to a rep that informed me they only support users if they have phone parining/uconnect usage issues, not media/music players.
I'm awaiting a reply from the rep after sending back a note asking them to re-read my original message regarding the iPod. Hopefully that will be sufficient to get a note regarding uConnect problems in to Chrysler. I don't have the luxury of swinging by a dealer as the moron that bought the local CDJ dealership a few years ago. ran it into the ground. Now I have to drive nearly an hour to see a reputable dealer.
I'll look into the accessory settings - but for now I'll try to find some joy in getting 'lucky' when the iPod finally connects.
