JK Door, seat-belt and lights chime volume decrease and removal
***YOU ATTEMPT THIS PROCEDURE AT YOUR OWN RISK***
With that out of the way, I think we all hate the chime in this vehicle. It is excessive and unneeded if we all act as responsible adults. I decided to remove mine completely and thought I would share this tutorial with you.
This process is quite simple and requires very little ability. You will need a 7mm driver and either an ear plug or wire cutters. A set of automotive picks will help as well.
I will say that during any point of dash dis-assembly, in any modern vehicle, it is unadvisable to have the key in the ignition while you have parts of the gauge cluster or even radio uninstalled. This may lead the vehicle to display the check engine light and require reset.
The first step will be to remove the trim at the base of the dash, just above the pedals. It is held in place with pressure tabs and removes with very little hand force. The next piece of trim under the steering wheel also removes with simple hand pressure. It is held in place with pressure clips at the top and hinges at the bottom so remove from the top down. Once both of these are out of the way you will find two 7mm screws holding the gauge cluster trim piece in place. Once these are removed there are simply a few pressure clips holding this in place as well.
Now you have access to the gauge cluster. Move your steering column all the way down to make room for your drive to access the bottom two screws and the top two are easily gotten at.
Once these are removed the gauge cluster is rotated into an upside down position to allow access to the mollex plugs on the rear side. This are easily removed with downward pressure on the clip, press inward and then pull out. Pressing inward will sometimes help to unlatch the clip on the mollex from the gauge cluster.
With the gauge cluster unplugged it can be removed from the vehicle.
You will find several clips holding the rear of the gauge cluster housing in place. This is where the automotive pick set will come in handy. Most of these can be removed by hand but the two on the sides will require a pick, or even a knife, to lift them from their tabs. There are no screws holding this in place, once the clips are lifted off the rear will come off.
With the rear off you will find the source of all of this stinking DINGING.
It is a small metallic transducer, speaker, in a black plastic housing. You can either:
1. Take a small piece of earplug and insert it firmly into the opening in the housing
OR
2. Destroy this noise maker FOREVER!!!
Personally I went with the latter.
Good luck and happy Jeeping!
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions and the step by step pictures. i was hesitant to tackle this today but the pictures put me at ease
and my gut said "go for it"! I actually removed the black puck by slowly twisting it with my pliers. I was concerned that using the ear plug would not totally silence the beast and I was NOT going to put the dash back together with that risk. Thank you again!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
My airbag light/chime has been going on/off incessantly the past week. Can't get the Jeep to the shop until next week & have a 6 hour road trip coming up, which will require the top on. Chime isn't too noticeable with top/doors off, but I was dreading the 6 hour drive (each way) listening to that forsaken chime!

this should be an option in the ProCal or whatever programmers.
my 1995 Tahoe had a stupid speaker module for this, that I unplugged and it was just fine.
I wear my seat belt. you don't need to beep at me when I put in the key... I PUT IN THE KEY! I KNOW IT because I JUST DID IT!
Yes the lights are on, who cares?! they go out! leave me the BEEP BEEP BEEP alone... lol.

im not goign to destroy my chime module as i may want it someday...
I do like that they finally allow you to turn the radio delay off.. so when driving doorless I dont have to either walk away with the radio on or turn it off manually..

Yup, all seems kinda un necessary. Check out the other posts about turning your key in the on position and clipping the seat belt on and off 3 times. It worked on my 2012 JK and I've haven't heard and seat belt dinging in months.

Mine, you just turn key on (accessory position), buckle and unbuckle 3 times, and turn key off. No more chime
