Default Just bought a JKU what is this part under my steering wheel?

So I just bought a 2011 JKU Sahara and have been fooling around trying to figure out all of the buttons and everything on the dash. One thing I'm having trouble with is trying to get my dome light to go on when I open my door but it doesn't seem to be working.

I'n search of trying to figure this out I found an odd looking wire harness routed under my steering wheel and I have no idea what it could be for? Here are two pictures I took of it in hopes one of you more advanced Jeepers can help me out.

Also, if anyone can help me out with my dome light problem I would greatly appreciate it. I'm thinking it may be a fuse but I don't know where the location of that fuse would be?

thanks
-Johnny

Do you have the jeep book/manual that originally came with the jeep?

On the dimmer stalk that controls dash lights, turning the knob fully turns off dome lights. Rotate knob to other than full and dome lights should turn on with open doors. That's if the bulbs aren't burned out.

I do not have the original manual but I downloaded it from Jeep.com and followed everything on the knob.

I don't think they are burned out because I can turn them on manually. My only other idea is that the dude before me that had the jeep took out the fuse because he had the doors off. If so where would the fuse be and where can I purchase a new one?

With the introduction of the JK series Wranglers they moved the switch that activates the interior lights from the framework to the doors themselves. There's a cable run that has to be disconnected from the doors when you take them off that keeps the light off. Check by the door retention straps to make sure they are all attached.

Check the gauge cluster. I had the same problem in my 2011 jk. The gauge cluster had a short and needed to be replaced. Works great now.
