Default Lighting configurations

Hello every one,

This is my first post here. I am not new to offloading but am new to Jeep modification. I have never been off road at night so I don't know anything about lighting setups. But I plan to join a local jeep club who does night rides.

I want to use four Rigid LED duallys on the front. Two on the bumper and two on windshield mounts. I also want two on the back bumper for rear view lights. What I need to know is do I need spot lights or flood lights.

Any help on this as well as other setup ideas are greatly welcomed.

Also I need idea on headlight replacements. So threads say use the IPFs while others say don't, same with other models. What seems to be the current consensus for headlights for a jk?

It is fairly common to use Driving or Euro beams on the front bumper, Spots on the windshield, and Floods in back. Many find that driving lights on the windshield cause a lot of reflection off of the hood, so do some research on the lights you choose to get some reviews if you want driving beams there.

Just as nthinuf said, you put driving lights on the bumper, long range (pencil beams) on the windshield and floods round the back. The pencil beams will project a long thin beam far into the distance and won't cause problems with glare off the bonnet etc..

I'm sure that you will get many opinions on the headlight issue. So I will start with mine. Just simply upgrade the lamps. Save the money for other upgrades or lighting projects. I have been running the Silverstar lamps for a long time. And I am very happy with the results. I get brightlighted quite often. And I am more than happy to return the favor.

I'd skip the A-pillar mounted and put all 4 on the bumper. 2 Euro and 2 flood (or all flood).
They're not a wide beam, even in flood configuration. But if you get the D2 Duallies, they put out stinkloads of light.
Just use regular Duallies on the rear, flood pattern.

As for headlights, what's your budget and type of driving?
Like Ford said, you can spend $40 for a set of H13 Phillips Xtreme Power bulbs and see better or you can spend lots more and see great.
Depends on your budget and how much you value good (and legal) illumination.

I'm of the opinion that it's important.

I was planning on dropping a couple hundred into the headlight upgrade. I really like good visibility but need to stay legal as the cops in my area can be a picky bunch. I drive mixed in the city and on the intersate/highway with typical Colorado hazards (big wildlife, snow and worst of all magchloride)

I do have a question regarding the head lights. It seems that the bug eye headlamps foul up with mag chloride and other light reducing scum faster than my parents 02 jeep. Do any of you notice that the headlights stay clearer longer if you have replaced the bug eyes with normal lamps?

Glass will clean easier and stay cleaner than the plastic bug-eyes; but it will break easier...
There are products that are replaceable to protect glass though; 3M makes some that are very robust.

You'll get the best overall performance from a set of Cibies, relay/harness, and H4 bulbs (I like Phillips Xtreme Power) from Daniel Stern Lighting. This is a no nonsense approach that's performance oriented and legal.

Hilldweller...what headlights are those posted in your pic? I've never seen the Cibies before and now I'm re-thinking the Trucklites Decisions decisions

Right now I have JW Speaker #8700 LEDs. I'm really liking them.

This is exactly my headlight setup. Cibie E-Codes (Z beams are no longer available) combined with the new Philips Xtreme Vision H4s which have now replaced the Xtreme Power. It's a great setup and not particularly expensive, either.
