Default Lockpick is a no-go on 2012 Manual with 730 headunit

Based on emails back and forth with the lockpick folks, I picked up a CHR-550 lockpick a while back for my 2012, but when I installed it, it didn't unlock the video in motion or the enter text while driving functions. I called coastal tech, and they informed me that although they thought it would work initially, the lockpick was not yet compatible with the 2012 manual - apparently the manual, in particular, has some new issue that needed to be worked through, and there should be a USB update released. Sadly, I just got the call from Ransom today informing me that for the foreseeable future, the CHR550 is incompatible with the 2012 manual. Fortunately, they will fully refund my purchase, but it still sucks that there is no lockpick solution for my Jeep. Not being able to enter text into the Nav while moving is going to make me lose my mind!

Anyway, I just figured I'd pass this along.

Edit 7/12 - installed the v5 lockpick. Unlocks nav input in motion, but locks up the nav making it entirely nonfunctional...back to the drawing board

So is it a CHR-550 issue, a 730 issue, manual issue, or all of the above? I am picking my 2012 JKUR 6spd with 430N up saturday and was going to use the lockpick v4 but it sounds like that isn't going to work. thanks for your help.

You think there are dealers that are going to unlock in motion video and text input? I kind of doubt it, there is nothing in it for them and everything to loose liability wise, plus it is illegal in many states.

Dealers aren't the only ones with starscans...

Hm, i was pretty sure that someone on a different wrangler forum reported that coastal tech had resolved the issues with chr550/lockpick and 2012 manual jeeps. Can someone else confirm that its still a issue? I thought they even had an update on their website.

I wish that were the case. I posted this right after Ransom from Coastal Tech called me personally to inform me that it was determined to be incompatible, and that I should uninstall mine and send it back for a refund. I like surfing forums for info, too, but when Ransom himself tells me it doesn't work, I'm inclined to believe him. He also told me that as of now, they do not have ANY working solution for the 2012 manual, but I should keep checking back, since they hope to develop something eventually - he didn't have any idea on a time frame of when that would happen.

You may have seen an old post somewhere, because at the time I ordered my lockpick, he told me via email that there would not be a compatibility problem. I didn't know there was an issue until after mine was installed and it didn't work. When I first contacted Ransom about this, he thought I had a bent wire or something, so he put me in touch with one of his tech guys. It was the tech person that told me the unit wasn't compatible. Ransom and I have talked several times since, while I was waiting for a USB update to become available. Ransom contacted me once his tech folks informed him it wasn't gonna happen.

As far as the website goes, I just looked on there, and here is what they list as the compatibility of the CHR550:
APPLICATIONS INCLUDE ALL
CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP
MYGIG RADIO CAPABLE VEHICLES
INCLUDING:

2007-11 WRANGLER, NITRO,
AVENGER, SEBRING, AVENGER

Notice - no 2012 models are listed. On the USB update page, the last update was listed as 05/19/2011

I'm not sure, actually. When I got the call, Ransom referred to it as a "manual Chrysler problem," but I didn't ask if the problem is specifically the manual and the 730, or if the 430 is also an issue. I was more focused on my actual application. All I can confirm is if you have a 2012 manual and the 730 head unit, you have no lockpick option currently. If you have further questions, I'd contact Coastal Tech directly.
