Default Major Electrical Issues

Hi. I drive an 08 unlimited. Had it since September 07. 23,000 miles. Totally stock except for an aftermarket alarm that was installed by the alarm retailer right after I bought the jeep a year and a half ago.The alarm has never given me any problems. Note:my alarm has a siren-it does not honk the horn when activated.

Jan 30 I'm driving & the horn, drivers lights, wipers, reverse lights & engine fan come on & won't shut off. I pull over to pop the hood & disconnect the battery, but everything goes back to normal before I open the hood. I drive away.

February 25th it does it all again except this time I can't shut the engine off (key is in off postition). I disconnect the battery & reconnect it and wipers, horn, driving lights, fan, reverse lights all come back on.

I start the engine & figure I'll drive to work & call the dealer but did not want the wipers running so I pulled the wiper fuse. Everything stopped (including the engine. Put the fuse back in and everything worked like it should. I called the dealer & made an appointment for the next morning. Everything worked fine for the rest of the day & the next day until I was about 5 miles from the dealer It all started again.

I rolled into the service department with all of this stuff going on (wipers,fan,lights,etc-I had left the horn disconnected the previous day.
Service guy said he wouldn't have beleived me unless he saw it (which he did).
They had it all day yesterday & were thinking they would have to replace the module but told me to call today at noon for an update. I got the impression that they are trying to get out of the warranty by blaming my alarm since it was not dealer installed? I find that hard to believe because the alarm has been on there since I bought the vehicle. How could it all of a sudden be the cause of a bad module?

Anyone else had this problem?

Yep...sounds like the stall bug. Mine did the same thing except for the horn and wiper bit. I took it in back in April and they reprogrammed it. Had it happen three more times and took it in last week. They downloaded the "fault codes" and could tell me each time it occured. They reprogrammed it again and said just let them know and they would go from there. This is something I didn't do but wish i had done...ask for a copy of the downloaded fault codes. (if that is possible).

sounds like you have a faulty front control module / fuse box. probably from water contamination. witch the fcm should be completely sealed from the elements. so would still be covered under warranty.

water to the interior, like leaving the soft top off in the rain seems to do stuff like this too, I'm betting the alarm installer tapped your wiring somewhere he shouldn't have, and now it's compromised, but it's just a guess being over the internet, and not in front of me. You're going to have a hard time getting warranty coverage.

Problem resolved & covered by warranty. Bad module. They were unable to communicate with the module. For the record this Jeep (unlike my previous Jeep-92 LT1 powered Wrangler) is totally stock & other than rain with the top ON has never been submerged or off road. Was not told why the module went bad.

Is this problem picked up by the dianostic trouble codes, mine says "done" which means no problems but im having the same problem as you where all the lights come on and the chime goes off for no reason.
