Default MyGiG Problems

Okay, here is the background:
- '08 4DR Rubicon is 4 months old, MyGiG installed at factory
- 3 Months/6k miles ago overhead console, Lockpick & BU camera installed
- 6 weeks/2k miles ago trailer brake module installed

Then 2 weeks ago the MyGiG just dies. No power on, nothing. I check fuses and the connectors but all appears well.

The dealer orders a new (refurbished) unit, plugs everything back in and claims it worked for a few moments then died. He immediately suspects the Lockpick module. I doubt it but tell him that if he orders another one and plugs in ONLY the factory connections then I will take it home, plug in the rest myself. In doing so, accept responsibility if the MyGiG dies a sudden death.

Today the new (I'm guessing refurbished again) unit shows up so I drop the Jeep off. Now he says the unit never powered up, nothing. He thinks "something" in the wiring behind the console is to blame, most likely the aftermarket modules playing some part. Another unit is ordered and I am to remove Lockpick and associated aftermarket wiring before bringing it back in next week.

On the way home with the latest MyGiG in the dash I am playing around pushing buttons when I find out that if I press the power on knob then the open DVD button then the screen shows the Chrysler logo just before opening up into the load position.

WTF?

So its not really and truly "dead" like my original was but it's definitely hurting. I'd like to do a little troubleshooting on my own before taking it back to the dealership next week, any suggestions?

So it sounds like it's not getting the proper signal from the can bus to turn on.
I can't understand from your post, have you or have you not removed the lockpick from it?
I would definately remove that and see what happens.
If it still doesn't work, I think you might have bigger issues, just since the mygig interfaces so much with the canbus, you're seeing it there more than in the other areas that are failing.

Well, I haven't actually verified that the Lockpick is disconnected but that is the state the dealer supposedly left it at. According to them, they never connected the Lockpick this last time.

So far I am not seeing anything odd from the CANBUS and from my understanding of those things they are pretty fragile.

I would re-load the old firmware into it and then it should work. Mine did this for a while when I put the new firmware into it. I re-loaded the old one and then re-loaded the new one and everything has been fine since.

you can get the firmwares from (link edited)

hxxp://mofv.com/mygig/
OR in a better description here, the lockpick is preventing the jeep from sending the "Hi radio, I'm a Jeep, you should turn on now" signal.

It ends up that he did in fact plug in the Lockpick, I disconnected the Lockpick and it has been running fine since. I did get a replacement from Lockpick but haven't installed it yet. I guess that I was unlucky enough to have my Lockpick module go bad, it happens. I imagine the new one will work fine.

Just under a year after I installed the lockpick my left side speakers started going on and off as I hit bumps in the road. I found that two of the wires in the lockpick plug-n-play harness were loose. Coastaletech sent me a new harness. this one was different than the original, alot longer and a few extra connections that I have no idea what they are for. I just put it in about a week ago. last night I was leaving work and when I started my jeep the mygig didn't come on. I tried restarting the car but still no good. I also found that pushing the open/close button would bring up the jeep logo but would go off after a few seconds. This morning I put the old one back in and every thing is fine. I put the new one back in and it seems to be working again. going to see if it happens again. I didn't buy the V2 version. I wonder if the new harness is for the V2?
