My gig sucks really!! It doesn't do more than a aftermarket system you can install. I have seen some better setups out there. Look up CarPc's or you can goto to most any audio dealer in town and find a system that has DVD, Nav, MP3 etc... Even if you get Mygig you have to hack the bastard to get BT and VR to work and buy extra mic and lockpick if you want a camera. Its absolutely ridiculous. My Phone does everything this system can do and more including internet.

Just my 2 cents!

Edit.... (just found this post!) https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-electrical-lighting-sound-systems-13/mygig-out-new-system-29937/

If you're going to spend anywhere upwards of $700 for the mygig, I'd start to consider some aftermarket options as well.

I feel $ for $, aftermarket will go a lot further than Mygig.

Granted, there are many Mygig users on here who love it, I just feel if you're going to get Mygig AFTER you already got your Wrangler, that there are better ways to spend your money.

I see Mygig as being a good option for those ordering their Wrangler, looking to finance the system in with their Jeep.

Just to play devil's advocate here.
Lets say 1100 for mygig, lockpick, and mic. 100 for a backup camera. (or forward facing from passenger tire to line up on rocks cause you know your spotter sucks.) Mygig is "plug and play" install basically, requiring at most a starscan hookup at the dealer. Call it 50$ for install. So 1250, you have a very clean looking installed DVD playing, bluetooth dialing, nav radio with hard drive and Sirius. (Arguably a crappy mp3 interface, but still)

Now for the aftermarket.
If you're willing to forgo the nav, sirius, and bluetooth.
You can get something like the Kenwood DDX6019.
600$ for a nice dvd player, fm radio. To install it you have to notch your dash a bit, and buy a 120$ installation kit. Oh, and it won't play DVDs unless you're in park, (stupid installation kit but I think you can hotwire that fix easier than buying a lockpick so maybe not an issue)
Add the backup camera and you're up to 850 to give up quite a bit in my opinion. Granted it's 2/3 the price, but I like the nav, sirius, and bluetooth.

So to go for the comparable kit. You're looking at something like the Pioneer AVIC-Z2X Package. This one comes with the backup camera and BT module.
So 2000$ for that. Then you still need the module/harness to plug it into your wiring, (unless you are replacing all your speakers etc etc.) so we are at 2120.
This does do all the things the mygig does. (arguably nicer or worse, take your pick) But it comes with XM instead of Sirius. You'll still need to notch your dash a bit. I'm not saying it will look bad, (unless you screw up) just a heads up.

Sooo, I think you can see which way I lean.
Oh yea, I like the mygig. Is it perfect? no, not at all. LET ME IMPORT MY OUTLOOK ADDRESS BOOK PLEASE!!!!. (sorry, was that out loud?)

Edit: for fairness since I was basing the price of the mygig on ebay prices, You can get the Pioneer for 1300 on ebay. (I realized I should check that. Sorry) So 1250ish for ebay'ed mygig, or 1400ish for ebayed pioneer.

Alright, I don't want this thread going too far off topic, but being one to lean in the direction of aftermarket, I'd say the numbers aren't 100% fair

To order a mygig from a dealer, I'd say it's about 1500, to be on the safe side.
This price is from a jeep dealership: http://www.justforjeeps.com/rermynara.html

Granted, you can find MyGig on Ebay for cheap...

Now, I'm not a mygig afficianado, but let's straighten up some numbers.

You can get many aftermarket head units. I have a single DIN Kenwood touchscreen that flips out. It cost $899, plus a $300 add on navigation unit (Garmin... works right on the 7 inch screen). A non-infinity sound system install kit can be had (with antenna adapter, harness, and dash kit) for about $70 shipped. I could add on bluetooth and sirius, but I have a soft top, and see my Jawbone headset as a better investment. Sirius never really sparked my attention, as I have enough bills.

Camera installation is a piece of cake. Just add your camera(s) on... plug them into the RCA jacks in the brain, and you're good to go. Tap a single wire into your reverse light, and the rear camera will automatically turn on when you're in reverse.

HD wise: I bought a $30 ipod cable. It connects to your ipod dock connector, giving you Instant (as fast as the ipod itself) touchscreen access to all of your media. If you have an ipod video.... you get all the movies as well. What's best about this is if you already have an ipod, you're golden. Just plug and play. Need more storage? Get another ipod (If you have the money..... which 98% of wrangler owners probably dont, so ignore my infinite storage speech)

The aftermarket will blow the MyGig away in terms of SQ. Right off the bat, you don't have to deal with the muted rear speakers (i'm not sure if lockpick takes care of that though...). Plus, if you're looking to upgrade down the road, just plug some RCA's into an amplifier, and add power as you will. There's no need to tap into speaker wires, so upgrading is a breeze.

Also, the Garmin Unit has an add-on antenna option (That doubles as an XM radio antenna) which gives you access to XM traffic, so if there's traffic on your way home, it'll steer you clear of it, automatically. Nifty little feature.

You do have me on the DVD while you drive thing. Kenwood's unit is a piece of cake to bypass. Just ground the parking break wire and it's bypassed. Pioneer and Alpine are a lot tougher to bypass, I think, but as of right now, I'd say kenwood is teh brand to go (Yes... even though alpine has that wicked cool pulse feedback touchscreen...)

I just feel like $ for $, the money is better spent on an aftermarket unit. I think the MyGig is great if you're buying one included with your jeep... otherwise, I just see Aftermarket as the way to go, even if it's a few bucks more.

If you get a killer deal, then go with the Mygig though...

But, the original poster kind of made it seem like Navigation wasn't a big deal for him. In which case, the kenwood lineup would be a great choice, since it gives him the option to upgrade down the road!

So wayland, you're at 1300, without a HD, and doing the install yourself.
And no bluetooth, no rear camera, (I don't see the need of one, but I like pointing it in front of the passenger tire? But I'm odd) and no sat radio/traffic.
Add 100 for the jawbone, (unless you were at CES, then 3$ for the trade in headset from CVS) and 100+monthly for sat/traffic.
So, how are my numbers skewed?

Now granted I don't think the mygig is the greatest thing ever, but it's not a bad deal either.
That said, I do have a non factory installed mygig.
So I guess I might be bias?

Just trying to say money is better spent on the Aftermarket unit at this point. That's all. You have more options in the long run, and you're getting everything out of the box, without having to hack a factory piece of equipment...
