Default Need help finding the right wire(s)

First of all, I am darn near useless when it comes to electrical matters but I'm doing my best to learn...

My question:
Which wire should I tap into for power to my transmission temp gauge? I've got it grounded, and the sensor wire run to the cab. I just need to locate a wire that turns on with the ignition for power. The location and color would be most helpful.

In a second request, I'd welcome the same info for a wire that turns on with my headlights for the illimination terminal on the gauge.

Thanks for not laughing at my ignorance.

Don't know about power right there in the dash. They are there but I don't know which one it could be. For illumination you have to take the dash apart to get to the back of the HVAC control. The illumination wire to the HVAC is Orange/Grey. There might be one closer to the gauge cluster.

I went down to my local auto parts store and found a wire tester and that made all the difference. And yes, the Orange wire with Grey stripe worked perfectly for illumination. For power, I tapped into the cig lighter (after testing for which wire was hot with the ignition) and now I have a gauge that works perfectly. Thanks for the tip on the Orange wire!

I would not hack my JK wiring. Get a fuseable wire and come off there.
