Default No Power to Stereo every few days

Hi All,

New to this forum and haven’t been active in the Jeep community in some time but I finally ran into a problem I can’t seem to solve.

2014 JK
Every few days, my after market HU (Boss) does not get any power, randomly upon start up. The only solution I’ve found was a battery terminal disconnect. Every time I do this, it turns right back on and works for another few days before it fails again.
My only other issue electrically is an LED tail light that fast flashes as it needs a resistor - this is also hit or miss on fast vs regular flashing but seems loosely correlated from when I started having stereo issues - though they seem independent (as the stereo when working, works without turn signal issue and also with)

I replaced the PAC module once already. The second one worked well and seemed to solve the issue for a few months but the problem resurfaced.

Could the lack of resistor on the LEDs be causing the stereo power issue thru the CANBUS) Anything else to check?

Fuses seemed fine and again, it works after a battery disconnect without finicking there.

I hate the stereo but I can’t seem to think it’s the issue.

Don't think there is a direct correlation between the hyperflash LED and the radio power, but - weirder things have happened!

Do you have any fault codes? That would be the first place I would look. If you are having any CAN bus issues, it's likely to store a DTC.

the codes I have were a few B16xx which were “left/right low/high beam circuit high. And “lost connection with radio”. Nothing else!

Don't know what lights you replaced with LEDs, but presumably it was the rear light/turn bulb. The B16xx codes are set directly in the TIPM as it controls the lights directly. Having an LED gives a much lower current draw than the incandescent bulb you replaced. The TIPM gets all confused with the obvious effect of having hyper flash.

At a minimum, I'd get the LEDs on the proper resistors to stop the TIPM from getting confused and eliminate the B16xx codes. Then you can go back to the radio issue to see if that is still there.

It's likely DTC U0814 for the radio. The PAC is an aftermarket adapter for the radio, right? The radio is on the CAN-IHS (Interior High Speed) BUS. It normally interfaces directly with the radio and the amp, but since you have a PAC in between, I don't know what the issue might be. My guess is it's the aftermarket PAC that's causing the issue. What brand of radio? Was the PAC included with the radio? Did you search the forums to see if that PAC/Radio combination is known to have issues? Some aftermarket products just have issues, no matter how many times you replace them.

Boss HU, and yes I have only been assuming it’s possible that the PAC unit just hates my particular Jeep since it worked for a while until it didn’t, twice. Might be best to change PAC to the Maestro. Might just use this as an excuse to get a HU I also like more as well.
