Default Which Optima?

OK. So I was reading around here and everyone loves the Optima Batteries. On Quadratec there are 3 kind. The Red, Yellow and Blue Top. The Red top provides "800 Cold Cranking Amps" and the other two provide 750. Is one better then the other? What are the differences between them? And any recomendations on which one to get?

Also the red top provides more power but is less expensive than the others...is there a reason for that?

Here's the link from Quadratec.

As always your oppinions are greatly appreciated

You should check the specs on Optima's web site. The red is a starter battery and not meant to be drained low by a winch, for example. If you don't have a winch, then you probably want the red. The yellow is a deep cycle battery that can be discharged several times. At 750 CCA, its also a good starter battery, but not as good as the red. The blue batteries come in both flavors - start or deep cycle. What makes them different is they have a second set of threaded posts. All three batteries come in different form factors, different strengths, and with different types of posts.

Most Jeep people with winches choose the yellow D34 or D34/78, or the blue D34M. All of them are deep cycle 750 CCA batteries.

I've got the red, no winch. It never lets me down and powers any and all things I throw at it. If the day comes where I get a winch, a yellow top will take its place.

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but if I plan on adding a winch within the next 3 years... should I go ahead and by a yellow top? Great thread!!
