I have had the check eng. light come on multiple times since I have bought this jeep with this code. I have had it to the dealership on 3 occasions where they have essentially replaced everything and the light still comes on with this same code.

Associated with the light and code is that the lights on the A/C dial buttons do not come on when depressed. The A/C works but the light does not work.

I can clear the code with the black battery cable or the procal but eventually it comes back on and the same issue occurs.

Any idea at all? I feel like trying to take time off work to setup another dealership appt. is just a waste of time. They do not seem to be able to fix it tho i do feel they have tried.
/////I use to have the same problem y just change the red 10 amp fuse M34 wich control tha a/c indicator and then reset the computer

I have exactly the same issue on my 07 JK Rubicon. The Jeep is at the dealer workshop for the last three days and am so scared from reading all the horror stories about the the failed TIPM etc. and intermittent symptoms.

It all started when a technician was trying to reconnect some auxilary foglights. He identified a faulty relay which is dedicated to the spotlights, however during the diagnosis something wrong happened and the power to the switch of foglights is gone. The power was initially taken from the cigarette lighter power source and hence it was fused.

After identifying the faulty fuse for cigarette lighter, and just for the sake of diagnosis, I didnt have any 20amps handy so I used the A/C fuse (20 amps) and it worked well, the light switch has power and the cigarette lighter is working.

So, I pulled the fuse back and put it in the original location for A/C.

Thats when the problem first surfaced I have Engine light on, the AC works but dial buttons do not come on when depressed, also the compas reading disappeared from the dashboard.

Did several trials swapping the fuses, adding new fuse for the cigarett lighter, then removing it with no luck, also tried removing the negative battery terminal for a while then reconnecting, it comes to normal for a second or two then again engine check comes on and back to square one.

The dealer diagnosis is still going onwith the focus on error code P0481, they hinted they might endup replacing the TIPM (not sure about the availability or the cost here).

Appreciate if you share your experience and the solution you had for this problem.

I will also share the updates so everybody benefits.

Update.

Issue resolved, tested last two days and all is well, so I am sharing my experience with all.

The cause was from loose connection on the TIPM on one of the 7 connectors underneath the TIPM unit. The connection was removed cleaned and pushed in again properly , the problem disappeared and all back to normal.

Default What if you don't have A/C?

So I was out mudding yesterday in my X and I'm now throwing a P0481, but as the title says I don't have A/C. Any ideas?

Have you gone through the rest of the thread? Lots of ideas already posted.

Check the radiator fins for mud, too. You may have to hose them out from the engine side.
