P2504 still after new alternator and battery.
Ok here is the problem: I put on a new Mean Green High Amp alternator and have installed a new Optima Yellow top. Jeep runs for a while 10mins or more and then depending on the load (lights on, AC, radio, etc..) I get the battery light and my inline circuit breaker between the battery and alternator trips as well. Read the code and its the Output Voltage High. My Jeep is a 2010 with 160k miles on it. I did the Big 3 a couple of years ago and have a 0gauge wire from alternator to battery with in line 250amp circuit breaker. I have checked all grounds and they look good.
Questions:
1. I did not replace the serpentine belt, could the belt, even though on correctly and running correctly, be putting a strain on the new alternator?
2. Anyone know the correct size for an line fuse for the Mean Green alternator? Specs show up to 220amps at 2000rpms, I didn't have a 220amp circuit breaker or fuse but did have a 250amp circuit breaker.
3. PCM or TIPM bad?
New Alternator: I put on the new alternator because my Jeep, 2010 with over 160K miles, has for the past year or so thrown the Output Voltage High code every now and then. I can clear it and it will be several months before it would come back. A couple of weeks ago while driving Battery Light came didn't think anything about and parked the Jeep. 30mins or so later I went to try and start the Jeep and no luck, click click. Read the code and Output Voltage LOW this time. I was able to get it jumped off but battery voltage never would get above 12 volts really. My battery, an Optima Yellow top was about 3 years old and while the Jeep was running a loud whine noise. So I figured with the Output Voltage Low code, while running only getting about 12V, and my battery being 3years old; I figured its the alternator.
New Battery: I installed the new alternator today and jumped Jeep off (since I was still on the old battery that was a little less then 12Vs. Jeep would run but battery voltage this time never would get above 13V. So improvement but not good. Also while running would trip the in line circuit breaker after only a couple of minutes of running even with no load. So I take the battery in and have it check and they say it's bad. I went ahead and bought an new one, Optima Yellow top again. I installed the new battery and Jeep will run and am now getting just over 14V while running. However after it runs for a while (longer then on the old battery) will eventually throw the Overvoltage code and trip the in line circuit breaker.
