Default Question for all the electronic guys out there...

I just bought an LED scanner for my Jeep in addition to the after market alarm system I had installed last year. The package says to connect the black wire to the battery negative or ground, the yellow wire to the alarm system accessory output or ground output, and the red wire to the battery positive. If this is done correctly the scanner should activate when the alarm is armed and turn off when the alarm is disarmed. Problem.... when I hooked it up, how I thought was correct, the scanner activated when I turned on the alarm, but would not turn off when I disarmed the Jeep. It simply stayed on for good. Can someone please help me to figure out what I am doing wrong, I'm stumped! Thanks in advance.

i'm not a complete electronic guy but it sounds to me like the signal to turn it on was there, but the signal to shut it off is missing, you know that by now. so it must be the signal from the LED to the security system itself? check your wires again and maybe switch the one from ground to the accessory output or vise-versa

It probibly works like a switch. And from my findings with automotive wiring, yellow is the constant wire. try switching the red wire and the yellow wire.

it's usualy Yellow= constant; Red= Power(to whatever it goes to); Black= Ground.

Not sure on what alarm you have but make sure you have it hooked up to the "ground when armed output "of the alarm. this should automatically turn it on when armed and shut it off when disarmed. If you dont have the diagram for it, ask whoever installed it for you to see what color wire that is.
