Default Question on heated seats

New member here...great site!! Very useful resource! I just bought my first Jeep, a 2011 Wrangler Sport, and am very happy with it. Living in Canada, I should have gotten the heated seats, but didn't because this was to be a company vehicle. (Not any more, I enjoy driving it too much)

I know there are many aftermarket solutions, but all use switches that look, well, cheap. The question I had is has anybody tried to use the oem heated seat switches in the center rocker panel of a Rubicon?

Seems to me that those switches should work, even with an aftermarket seat heater.

Look forward to your thoughts.

If that's so, it explains why nobody seems willing/able to do it. I'll try to take my panel out this weekend to have a look, and take a couple of pictures.

Thanks for the reply.

I did it. Just take your time taking it apart, cut slots for wires with a razor blade.

O ya, I put in my own heated seats with a kit from Mopar. Their switch looks clean, pretty easy install.

That's not a bad idea, but I was hoping for a totally stock look if possible.

Isn't the MOPAR kit the same as stock?

I think what he's trying to say is that the 2011's they have incorporated the heated seat controls into the Hazard, Sway Bar, Lockers, Airbag control panel. If so, that's really cool. I hadn't noticed that in any of the other pics from 2011s though.

Just looked again and yes, there is in fact a bigger switch section down there and heated seats are in fact in there. The only thing you'd have to check is if your JK actually has the switches or not. My JK is a 07 sahara and the spaces for lockers/swaybar are not there as they would be on a rubicon, they are just blanks. If I added them and wanted to use the switches I'd have to buy the piece for the rubicon. So you might have to purchase an entire new cluster there. As for the install, don't know, but it would be interesting to see it done.

Agreed. But when you buy any of the other MOPAR kits, they come with the new cluster / swithes. Just thought that they might do the same for the heated seat option ( 2011 specific ). If not in kit form. Then just order the desired pieces?

on the 2011's you can replace the center stack switch panel with the one for heated seats.. insert the necessary wiring into the TIPM.. get the sales code for heated seats star-scanned into service.. install the seat heaters and you will be good to go

on the older models.. you MIGHT be able to use a center stack switch panel from a PT cruiser limited which had heated seats as an option.. the TIPM unit is similar also.. so there should be a place for the wire as well.. and see if dealer can add a heated seat sales code to your Jeep to activate them....
