Default --REMOTE START/POWER LOCKS/DOOR TRIGGER-- the EZ way

Hi everyone!
I would just like to (possibly once again) clear all the confusion about getting our Jeeps to remote start/lock doors/monitor door status with an aftermarket alarm. basically everything you need besides Rear Defrost control.

You need:
Any recent ('09-) Directed Electronics Alarm that includes D2D (Data to Data) Communication EG- Viper 5801/Viper 5901

Now use google shopping to locate the following
"CHALL"- This box takes care of Remote Start/Power Locks/Parking Light Flash/Unlock Illumination and Door Triggers!!

"CHTH2" This cable interfaces into your ignition cylinder and the "CHALL" using Molex connectors so your WARRANTY STAYS INTACT!!

This method is the most foolproof way to install a remote start without soldering into your CANbus wires or loosing a key.

I just felt people were wiring directly into their power lock actuators/door triggers/MUX wires/CANbus wires which in the area I specialize in I know things go SPARKY SPARKY and Warrantys go Voidy Voidy especially when your tapping into wires that arent always + and -

Thank you for this! I have a 5901, but didn't hook up the remote start since I'm not comfortable enough with the ignition system to attempt direct splicing. It should also get rid of some annoying quirks that come with using the dome light wire as a door trigger.

sounds interesting ... how does it work exactly ? so would you still have a install shop put your alarm in or can you buy a alarm for the jk and install it your self easier now ? kind of plug and play alarm/remote start setup ? thanks

The only wires you need to hook up now are Power-Ground-Siren (+&-)- Hood Trigger, One wire I forgot about is the ignition sense, the pink/white on the 4-5 pin harness needs to be diode isolated so that the alarm doesnt lock while your engine is running with the key in.

Tools needed for diode isolation
1 Digital Multi Meter-- DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT....EVER!
1 scotch lock
2 butt connectors
1 diode
1 pair of wire crimpers
1 female spade connector

On a 5901 or 5701 viper, on the heavy gauge wires there is a Pink wire called Ignition 1, This is your ignition sence this needs to be connected to your cars ignition(5pin harness under steering wheel or use power off your cigarette lighter) but in the middle of the wire there needs to be a diode.

DO NOT USE HEAVY GAUGE WIRE
Find some simple wire that will be crimped easily, We only need one of those 10 wires, actually the bottom right terminal.

Look at your diode, there is a grey strip on the diodes housing, That needs to be pointing twards the alarm. This makes power flow only to the alarm so that it knows the ignition is on, So when you remote start, the alarm is not giving your car 12v its then the other way around.

On each end crimp the butt connector really close to the diode itself. This makes it so it has some rigidity in case you need to work on your alarm later.

Hook up one end of your wire to the ignition with your scotch lock but MAKE SURE that the grey strip on the diode is at the alarm side. Now finish your wire with the female spade and hook it up to the alarm on the bottom right connector of where the heavy gauge wire went. If you have any issue with where it goes look at the install manual below and go to the last page.

Whew... it may seem bad but it isnt...Until you write it out/read it. lol

Also i have a 5701 Install Manual in case

Viper 5701 Install Manual

I would have to say that this is THE MOST complicated part... Everything else is plug and play, The Viper alarm and the CHALL both interface using a 4 pin connector, and the CHALL has a female harness and a male harness that plug into your ignition cylinder, the plug you took out daisy chains with the plug you put in.

GOOD LUCK!!

any questions just email me and ill walk you through it to get you remote started!

Thanks for providing this. I have a 2010 stick and really want remote start but cannot find enough data to proceed.

How much will everything I need cost?

I have power nothing.

Do not put a remote start on a manual transmission. I installed rem starts for years and I put one on one of my vehicles that was a manual transmission. I never had a problem with it, but its WAY to easy to run your car through your garage, a restaurant, etc if its started in gear. If you let others drive your car, they might do it too! I know it seems cool, and it is, very unique too, but sooo dangerous. NO one drove my car and I still had a few close calls with idiots pushing buttons on my remote etc.

Just my advice, save yourself the liability and buy a lift or something with the money instead.

Very good point, and I have two small kids. Will keep it on the dream list for the next Jeep.

Seriously? I had a remote start in my manual 97 Chevy S-10 for 7 years and never had a close call. If a remote start is installed CORRECTLY into a manual transmission vehicle then you have to arm the system. In my S-10 it was hit a button on the remote, remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle was running in neutral and the park brake set. Then exit the vehicle, closing and locking the doors. Then hit the button on the remote and it would shut down. If any doors were opened then the system would de-arm and wouldn't remote start. More recently I was talking to a friend who has a newer model remote start, all he has to do is double tap the break pedal and remove the key. As he closes the door, the vehicle shuts down and is armed. Very Safe, if done correctly.

All that being said, most shops will not install a remote start into a soft top vehicle because someone can get in without opening doors.

Default Doors Off

How will the alarm react if there are no doors on? Can it still be armed? BTW, I've deleted remote start off my wish list - I've used one on a stick before, but not a convertible. There is just way to much that could go wrong with the doors and roof off; kids jump in, move shifter while they play, jeep runs into my wife's car when I start it.....
