Default Remote, or timed heat?

I don't want a remote starter(6sp.) but I'd really like to have a 12v ceramic heater running for 10-15 minutes before I get off work.

So, anyone done it? I've heard of using a battery operated programmable furnace thermostat to trip a relay for the 12v heater, and I'm guessing if I got a cheapy remote start off Ebay, I could prob'ly rig it up to make it a "remote starter for the heater", tho' I'm guessing that would end up involving a lot of otherwise not needed wiring.

So, lay it on me.....what's best, cheapest, most reliable, easiest, etc....etc.....??

Thanks!

Umm/?? I guess there wouldn't be any danger in having something like this riding around the cab of your jeep turning over then you remotely cutting it on is it?
There are a lot of ways to remotely do this but it seems like a rigged up way to pre heat the car.(my .02) Furthermore, I can't say I know anything about 12v ceramic heaters or have ever heard of them, but it doesn't seem like it would be an efficient way to accomplish your goal. Heaters typically take a good bit of energy to produce heat, could this additional strain on your battery ever leave you stranded on a cold morning?:whoaisme:
It seems like by the time you rig everything up you might need to do this you could purchase remote start. Either set up would require some forethought to setup for the next morning. Ie. Making sure the heat was set to the on position (remote start) or making sure no items were too close to your ceramic heaters ect…

12v heaters don't get very hot, just lukewarm air. But, would be nice to not have to scrape my windows every morning (nightshift every other month) and 6am is mighty friggin' cold in Ohio!!

I don't want remote start with a manual tranny. I know it can be done, but absolutely safely.....I doubt it.

C'mon, NO one has done this?????

got it, works great! If anyone else hates scraping their windows in frigid temps, take a look here. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...587#post250587

I have a Compustar remote start with a 6spd and it is absolutely safe. It will not start unless the Jeep is in neutral. For what its worth.

I would be worried about having something like that working in my jeep when I wasn;t in it, maybe look into doing the same thing with heated seats instead?

Yeah, I know it's possible, but BFG's parking lot is a good distance from the plant, so I'd have to prob'ly go outside to even use it. It is a BIG place, and I get plenty of walking done over the course of a 12 hour shift!

Plus, there are NO reasonably priced 12v programmable timers, so I got to tinker for an afternoon!!
