Haven't tried the HID's but I am running the Halogens - 5 on overhead light bar and 2 on the windshield and The Voltage draw isn't as bad as you might think just upgrade the wiring to 8 gauge make sure you have really good ground and power connection, switch to a optima battery and wire them up ...

I got some 7" 50 caliber racing HID floods off Amazon brand new for $110 each, and I am very happy with them. I plan on ordering some more next month, to go on windshield brackets, and to replace my outboard halogens.
