Run 1 or 2 JL audio 8" subwoofers, see drawing
Ok, here is an interesting one if anyone has ever tested this out....I would like to hear from you.
So, take a look at my drawing real quick. Should I: run 1 JL 8w3 at 200 watts OR run 2 8w1 at 100 watts each?
Keep in mind the difference in build quality also between the w1 and w3.
I am open to suggestions based on everyone's past experiences....maybe it make no difference. When the soft top is down, I don't think it would matter anyway.

I would think that two would be a better option, more output with less distortion.
A W7 would be awesome but if he is trying to conserve space it would not be the way to go. W7 need a lot of air space especially in a ported box.
Logan. Can your amp not run at 2 ohms if so you might be able to get a little more power out of it.
Also what kind of bass are you looking for. Do you want a lot of punch or good smooth bass? W1 have more of a sharp kick to them then W3.
with your current setup I would say go with the two W1. Both subs can handle more power then what you are giving them and you would not get close to the full performance of a W3 with 200 watts. It would sound awesome but you would not get every penny out of it.

H.I.I.K., Thanks for responding....
I can change the amp out....to a Rockford T600-4, that would provide a theoretical max of 300 on the sub total. I selected a few Rockford amps due to the price point, and the size to output power ratio.
I am older now and not looking to rock the house like I used to. Back in the day running, Rockford 15's, or Kicker 12's , or JL 10's....Just looking for punch without the constant bass roll hum from a ported box(my perception).
I have also been looking at the Kicker L7 8"....being a square sub, it seems intimidating. After years of different subs in different configurations...I have always settled for JL.
I am having a lot of trouble figuring out if, 1 sub at 300 watts is the same as 2 subs at 150 watts each.
I have had the older version and the new version of 10w6's...I have not heard the w3 or w1 yet....W7 is not looking good due to price and install depth.

If you are really looking for a good clean sounding sub I would recommend Focal. they are nothing but amazing clean bass.
larger subs allow for more air movement so yes you can get more boom but they also allow you to reproduce low frequencies better and in return you give up fast reactive bass. So really it depends more on the style of music you listen to more than how you want it to sound if that makes sense
How you tune your amp will decide on that as well.
I listen to a lot of metal with really fast kick drum parts so I went with 10" subs but I also listen to very technical melodic music so low frequencies are a must so I got W6 so because the higher end subs have more travel and a better motor so they can reproduce the sounds better.
Now if all you are doing is adding a sub to your jeep and not replacing any of your speakers then you can go with 1 10W1 and it will give you bass. W3 will give you better bass for it is a better sub. So to answer your question no two at 150 is not = 1 at 300 the build of the sub is very important.
Hope this answers your questions and that I'm not just rambeling
Be happy to help however I can.

I have a RF T4004. If yours is like mine, it's the power series (competition) and it will push 2 ohm loads easily. I've got the infinity system and tapped the sub channels for this amp to push my fosgate 10s (built a down firing box) and I don't even have it bridged (anymore) and it's plenty. And it also open up more options for speaker choices.
