Default Simple backup light?

I am adding a new rear bumper which does not have light holes (Bestop Highrock) and I am thinking it would be a simple thing to add one round fog light to the top of the bumper (or tire carrier, I will figure out exact placement once I actually have it) and then tie it into the towing wiring harness to power the lights. Easy wiring, no switch necessary, when I go in reverse, I will have extra light!

Anyone see any problems with my plan? Anyone done this?

I did this with a cheap wall-mart light. It works pretty well.

So when you there your walMart lights on, did you run it off of the trailer wiring harness? Im curious because I was under the impression that a 4 pin trailer harness didn't work the back up lights.

I wondered that too. I haven't tested with volt meter yet.

I opened the passenger tail light and spliced into the back up light and I used the same ground the tail lights use.

After reviewing some wiring diagrams I dont see a circut for backup lights in a 4 pin wiring harness! So my initial plan may not be an option.

Yeah. I ran into that too . Got ask excited with the idea of using the plug and play harness until I finally realized. ...... no back up signal. Would have just been too easy I guess

I just tapped into the backup wire on the drivers side tail light. No problems at all. Works great. Also, this is where the trailer wire hooks up so I just ran the wires together for a clean install.
