Loss of signal even when i moved the antenna to the hood( original is ontop of rollbar under padding.I put padding on my hardtop and lost the signal, thats why I had to put another antenna)/
Interesting tho...my top cver over the radio has a scratch on it...my guess someone complained about there sirius noise and dealer changed his radio with mine before I bought it and scratch my cover .

hey ,did anyone's come with the sirius already turned on ,or did you have to call and activate it? When I test drove my jeep I don't think the sat. worked <we listened to fm. When i bought it the sat. was already on !!! Do they all come "activated"?
on my list for the dealer....
Mine was tuned on when I picked up the JK. I hear there one year comp. service, I could be wrong.

All the radios have Sirius enabled (that is, if they HAVE sirius!). If your dealer did things right, you'll get a welcome kit in the mail from Sirius, and they'll be in touch to convert you to a paying subscriber as your free year expires.

If the dealer DIDN'T do it right, you'll have free Sirius service until it cuts out one day, at which point you can go complain to your dealer and probably get your free year started.

As for the sound quality complaints-- I won't argue folks' listening preferences. I have friends who complain about the sound quality of MP3 regardless of what compression settings are used. I have other friends who proudly compress their music down as much as they can to fit umpteen thousand tracks on their player (or cram umpteen hours of playback on a CD-R). I'm somewhat of an audiophile, but I'm pragmatic with my expectations, and the lesser quality of satellite radio doesn't bother me in the context of what I get from the service.

Sirius isn't CD quality, but the sound quality on the music stations is fine to me. If you can't stand to listen to it because of the compression artifacts you hear (and I believe you can hear them), then you should listen to CD's, or MP3's you've made to your preferences. If that means you're out the $150 or so extra it cost to buy your JK with Sirius, there are worse mistakes in life!

I have noticed sound quality problems under two conditions. First, when the channel I've chosen for my satellite reciever to broadcast to is too close to another stations channel, and second when somebody else I pass on the freeway is using the same channel to broadcast XM or Sirius.

Other then that, except for the occasional artifact here and there, I have noticed improved sound quality over FM. Going from FM to Satellite Radio for me, the bass is a lot richer, the sound is crystal clear vs FM's staticyness, and it sounds great.

It could depend on a lot of things. Interference can come from a million places, your location and signal strength from the satellites could have something to do with this (although I regularly travel the country and havent had any issues), your position of the satellite reciever could be the issue. If you read the instructions, you are supposed to have 12 inches of bare metal all around the magnetic antennae that you mount on your car. I have noticed artifacting seems to drop or all the sudden disappear when I have the appropriate amount of metal around it. I believe this is due to the magnetic properties of the antennae using the 12 inches of metal around it as a greater surface area to recieve signal. If you take this away, I would assume artificting is more likely, and sound quality is more likely to drop.

I suppose it's the damage I've sustained to my ears, navy, steel plant, firearms, and music way too loud, but I really like the sirius. I really like the sound system in my rubicon. I really like the the fact I can listen to just about any type of music I want. Reception is fantastic. The ozark mountains do a really good job of blocking conventional radio signals, with sirius it's not much of a factor. I'm satisfied.

i added Sirius to my srt-4 (via a Clarion deck) with hopes that it would be better than FM quality. I was so wrong. It sounded like a crappy compressed web stream. A station with good FM reception sounds much better. THe XM in my moms ridgeline sound smuch better IMO.

I agree on the xm ...I had an Alpine cd head unit with on-board xm and it was great quality and didn't drop out driving under trees.I think I will go back to xm when my year of sirius is up ,but they DO have better blues than xm... ...

I've heard lots of folks say Sirius has better sound quality than XM, and I've heard lots of folks say XM has better sound quality than Sirius. I think they're about the same.

If you live in an area with lots of good FM signals and stations you like, there's no reason to get satellite radio.

But if you want audio in your car without 60%+ commericals on the station, and you're tired of playing cd's from your own music collection, satellite radio is the way to go.

The variety and quality of Sirius's playlists has been very satisfying to me. Do my CD's sound better? Sure they do. But Sirius doesn't sound AWFUL by any stretch of the imagination.

If it sounds like a crappy compressed web stream, there might be something wrong with how you're connecting it all up. Or are you only listening to the talk channels? Those sound like AM radio to me, and I agree the sound quality of the talk stations is crappy. But the music? Sounds fine to me. To each their own.
