Default Steering Wheel Controls as auxilary switch??

Hey Guys!

After looking for new places to discretely mount switches for my aftermarket lights, I came across the now-useless REAR steering wheel controls. (upgraded my stock radio) Was wondering if anyone has used these for auxiliary stuff? Would have to find where the existing wiring comes out on the stock harness, to control a relay, but could this be done/has anyone done this?

I have even considered drilling the blanks on the front of the wheel. Any ideas?
