I doubt that is the case. I believe it just seems that way because of increased noise levels. You also lose cabin gain effects further reducing output.

It sounds different due to the changes in acoustics with the top and doors off, and as mentioned more road and wind noise

I saw a thread about this as well. There are numerous people that have stated that once the hard top is removed, the sound is reduced. This is evinced by having the stereo on when unplugging the harness for the hard top and the stereo cuts out and the sound is different (same thing when plugging back in). People have made jumpers to insert in the plug to get around this issue. I have no personal experience but I have seen enough posts on it to believe it is possible, so I wouldn't discount it as bogus just yet.

SO I tried this on my buddies 11 JKUR. In the back there is a plug for the hardtop. We simply connected (jumper) the violet/white wire with the black/ground wire. It did result in better sound. Not much, but there was some improvement.

Good luck

According to the other thread you are correct....when hard top is off power is reduced. Several have confirmed this....just need a jumper for the harness in back...where hard top connects for power and water

Mine doesn't do this. Might be due to the aftermarket head unit I have though

Correct. It is a built in "feature" of the stock HU.

Interesting. I didn't know this. No wonder I keep turning it up during the summer months to keep the lady happy. I am deaf, and would like to keep the volume as high as I can.

Is there a way around this?
