I would install the cross over as well. I wouldnt trust the stock stereo to block the DBs for you. Teh stock probably has a different level that the after market ones and I wouldnt rish ruining them. Im sure you can find room for the crossover behind the left and right dash plate when you remove them.

Heres how I did mine.
Using a plastic pry tool (or wrap a flat screw driver in cloth) pry the tweeter grill off the stock tweeter. There are 3 clips to unfasten.
Pop out the stock tweeter - I don't believe there were any additional screws.
Unhook the clasp on the wiring harness for the stock speaker. Cut the factory harness off and keep as much wire as possible. Put a big piece of duct tape on the wires so they don't fall into the dash
The yellow stripe wire is negative, purple positive. Soder (my preference) or twist/clip the new speakers in. So it goes factory wire > wire into cross over > wire into tweeter
Reassemble. In my case I had to trim the stock tweeter unit so I could fit the monster tweeter assemble into it.
>>I'd really recommend keeping the cross over so it will be there if you install an aftermarket head unit
