i guess the only reason i want steel is for security but yeah maybe some fiber to add some vents.

I don't think the rear trunk area is a good place for any car audio equipment. You have a hot muffller under it & a cool area above it (read that----condensation & moisture) Plus, it doesn't vent well, so any amp there is gonna get hot real quick.

You have very shallow mounting depth---it will work for some smaller subs or ones that are shallow in design, but for most....you're gonna run outta room in either mounting depth or the sub's speaker surround is gonna hit the underside of the JK's cover at full extension. People often forget that the sub's face & surround come as far up as they do drop down while hitting a low note. And....unless you're just mounting the sub on a piece of wood and leaving the rest open air, you have to compensate for the box material on a partially rounded bottom of the storage area.

I looked long and hard at trying to make this work for a pair of 8's & the only way I could find it to work is to mount a pair of extremely shallow 8's--free air---on a piece of 1/2" mdf. It just wasn't the sound I was looking for.

What I decided on was to build a box for my Alpine R Series 12" sub , which I finished tonite, I'll post pics when available. It's aroudn 1.7cubic feet, which is too much for an enclosed/sealed box, but we'll see..... ;-)

Anyway....I know people on here and other forums have installed subs & amps in that area & love them. I'm just offering my opinion. If you don't like my opinion, then don't read my posts.
Good points, but I was thinking of relocating the muffler and then adding some depth to the tub well to deal with that problem...but worthy to bring up no doubt. But also that's why we're discussing below the front seats and also 4degree's idea of armrest pieces...

I think we may be on to something....hard to say yet.

If you relocate the muffler.....that eliminates a lot of problems. Let us know how it turns out.

WOW! You guys are really taking this too far. Just dump that amp in the tub and get over it. My friend has his in his tub for over 8 months now and nothing happened. He went water fording 3 times now and no leaks and no water in there and no heat issue....as i also have my sub in there. The heat doesn't get to the tub because of the carpet.

If not, go turn on ur jeep for an hour and sit in the tub and find out....

Have you taken a look at the new boston amps? I plan on using one mounted upside down to the lid of the bin when ever I get around to my system. They can with stand the heat and even advertise them as being able to mount anywhere anyway.
