Default subs rattling the tailgate

How the hell do I make it stop?? I have a box behind my back seat with two 12" subs and it sounds terrible when you are outside of the Jeep and the music is on. The tailgate just rattles so freaking bad I thought about stuffing some towels into the tailgate but that didn't do me any good.

Does anyone have this problem or have a fix to this problem??

The problem with the tailgate is that it could be a number of things rattling:

Latch where it connects to the body of the Jeep
The Airvents on the other side of the tailgate on the out side
The Plastic pieces on the inside that are beauty covers for cables and such

The way I would do it is fire up the subs, let it rattle the back and walk back there and press on the tailgate to find out exactly where it is rattling. Push on the tailgate or press different parts of it to try and find the culprit. Unfortunately though, your probably still going to have some rattle even after doing all of this. But with the addition of some sound deadening material (dynamat) you can definitely help reduce it quite a bit.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
I've gone around back and pushed on it before and it's the metal inbetween the air vent and the handle. I'm going to check into the dynamat and see what I can do. Thanks so much for your input Will definitely keep posted

dynamat that tailgate! Hopefully that will help a lot but those low bass notes shake the shit out of the jeep. Jeeps are built pretty much to be disassembled, moded, fixed...and so on with little to no effort compared to other vehicles. so there are a lot of little annoying parts that rattle and break especially with aftermarket subs hitting those low notes

im receiving my jeep tomorrow after a hefty 3,800$ sound system was installed so il let you know what the bass does but im praying nothing rattles. If you find a way to fix it by doing something else post up because odds are il have the same issue

its a jeep and its only money anyway

What all did you get (sound system wise)? I definitely didn't pay 3,800 for mine so yours is going to definitely shake the shit out of your Jeep!! Haha My tailgate is herculined but that definitely hasn't helped the rattle at all. I'm going to look into the dynamat more after the holidays when the audio stores around here open back up

they installed both of the alpine amps where the jack goes. they put a board in there to raise it up an inch to protect it from water. I wanted them mounted under the front seats but the audio guy put them in there. Il post up pics when the sun comes up here in chicago. I want to keep them where they are because they are just beautiful so I can show them to people and keep thief's away at the same time. Im just worried about water gathering in the jack compartment still. I know thats an issue with 07-10 jks but does anyone know if they fixed it for the new 2011s?

Anyone been in a 2011 when the top is down and it rained on them? Could you check the jack area for water?

Il post up pictures tomorrow it is so beautiful and every time I get in the jeep and turn the radio on I cant help but grin from ear to ear.
