Default Subwoofer Question

Hey, i purchased a subwoofer and amp from fusion. It's the 12' with the 450 watt amp. I know that's not a powerful amp, but i'm wondering, is there anything I can do to give the sub a little more punch? Whether it be building an enclosure around it or tweaking it just right. This is my first sub, so I don't know the tricks of the trade. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice sub and it does the job, I'm just looking to make it better. Thanks.

If its not already in an enclosure, put it in a ported box. That will give you the loudest bass generally, but not the cleanest bass. It all kinda depends on how you want it to sound.

It's in a ported box now, what I meant was, would it be beneficial to create another enclosure that I could put around it to help with the acoustics? Also, would adding any type of insulation or foam help inside of the ported box. I know one of my friends has done this in the past and I was wondering if it's worth it? thanks

Nope, ported is the way to go. A lot of people put poly fill inside the box, but I've never noticed any good results with it. Poly fill is super cheap and easy to add.

You're limited by the sub and amp though - they can only do what they can do, theres no real miracle pill to add umph to them.

Wow, since when was 450 Watts not that much power? I haven't built speaker boxes for quite a while. Probably the last one I built was the one stolen from my CJ-7. In any case, I wouldn't just build a wood enclosure for your sub. Best to see if they make a poly one to protect it from water. To make the correct box you will need the specs from the sub. You can put them into an online calculator and it will tell you the size in cubic feet the box needs to be. From there build it and secure it somehow. Someone always want's your stuff more than you do.

I had a powered tube sub that is probably about 8 inches. I spliced it into the front speakers and powered it to the fuse box under the hood. This was a cheap solution to a cheap sterio. I did this because if I had put a nice sub in there, some goober could have unzipped my window and taken my amp and sub.

Default JL Stealthbox

I recently had the JL Stealthbox installed into my JK. Its a sealed box with a 13" driver.

I have a hardtop JK, however, the sub has two bolts that go into the chasis. Admittedly one of them isn't too hard to get at (if you consider removing the inner fender liner), but the second one you have to access through the rear brake light opening.

As for power, I have a cheapy 500 watt TMA amp. With the top on, I have the bass at -7 (yes, not positive) and its plenty. If I increase the power through the deck to +7, you can hear it inside my house (the walls are made of plaster, not skimpy sheetrock). With the top off, no doors (basically wide open), I run it at +4 to +7 and its plenty of bass.

Basically, with the hard top, I feel pretty confident that it won't get stolen. It blends in very well and when you look through the dark tinted windows, you really can't tell its there.

And hopefully some goober won't try and take it out. I can only imagine the amount of damage that will be caused not only to the sub, but to the jeep as well.

Total install cost about $1100.

did you have a factory sub? where did the amp input come from? if it is connected to the rear outputs, it needs to be changed to the front. Jeep neutered the radio have almost no rear bass output (so the soundbar does not buzz)
