Default Suggestions for 2009 Wrangler JKU - NEW Head Unit w GPS \ BT and 6.5in speakers

I've looked at stuff till my eyes glazed over. I got a quote from BestBuy for a Kenwood DNX572BH and 4 Alpine SPS-610\c.

That runs about $1470+ with kits\harnesses and labor etc.

I'm sure I can do this myself and I already have a 4ch 1000w quality amp.

So the questions is:

Buy a Kenwood DNX572BH or a different HU with GPS and BT?

Buy the Alpine SPS-610\c or some JBL etc?

And mostly - what have you done already that is a success and a known good that you're happy with?

Can anyone post their upgrades for a 2009 or in that same year style?

Thanks in advance!

What do you want your GPS for? If just road navigation to Starbucks in a strange city, then any old device will do and you can stop reading here. But I'm looking at where you live and thinking that if you plan to use your Jeep as the off-road exploration vehicle that it is, then you should look into something besides the typical audio company product lines. I recommend something like a Nexus 7 tablet (though they are out of production) running Backcountry Navigator. There are Apple hardware and app equivalents, but I'm not an Apple user. These will provide you much better off-road navigation without charging you through the nose for map data (The 1:24K CalTopo maps I use are free, in fact).

If you check out YouTube, there are some videos about incorporating a tablet into the dash (I use a RAM mount), using a wireless charger and an amplifier for sound. Devices such as a Nexus 7 also give you way more useful functions, such as:
  • Music
  • Vehicle CAN bus monitoring (read intake manifold pressure, intake air temp, catalytic converter temp, etc)
  • Weather radar image (if you have data connection)
  • Storage of permits, reservations, .pdf guides and instruction manuals, etc

Check out the Pioneer 4000NEX or 4100NEX, they are DVD double dins but have Apple CarPlay and the 4100 adds Android Auto so it uses your phone to pull tbt navigation for a third of the price. Also has Bluetooth and voice commands. It also has a removable front face. Easy to install yourself, many writ-ups and youtubes to follow.
