Switch nav unit from 08 to new 2012, possible?
Was considering pulling the factory navigation in my 08 out and swaping it with the standard radio in the new 2012. I have a couple questions:
1) Will everyting work?
2) 08 currently does not have bluetooth(has button but says not equipped) 12 has connectivity group...will bluetooth work with swap?
3) Will the steering wheel buttons work after swap?
4) Can I also swap the antenea and and small black compass box into 2012?
appriciate any help.................

Ok, I'll preface this with a disclaimer: I don't have a factory nav unit in my '08, nor do I have a '12.
On the other hand, I've been doing lots of research on what it'll take to put an RHR in my '08, and I believe I have the answers to some of your questions.
1) Sort of. For the radio part, yes. The nav units in '11 and '12 use a single antenna for nav and sat radio. The older units use separate antennas. You'll have to fab a mount for the GPS antenna, as your '12 won't have the proper mounting bracket on top of the radio stack. Either that, or rig up a demultiplexer to split the sat radio and GPS signals apart, assuming your '12 has the combo antenna mounted in it.
2) That's a good question... It should? Maybe? I'm not certain though. From what I hear, the other way around works - older bluetooth boxes work with newer radios. For all I know, it could still be the same model.
3) Possibly. It depends on if the remote protocol changed between '08 and '12. While JKs in '08 didn't have steering wheel controls, other Chrysler products did, and the RER was available with it. So as long as the protocols haven't changed, it should. I've no idea where to look that up though.
4) You'll have to fab or rig a mount for the antenna. As for the compass module, the '12 should have it's own already there. Best to just use it.
Good luck with your project!
