Too Many Mygig Problems
Feel free to shoot me or whatever....... I read almost every post in this forum, and it seems like there are WAY too many problems with Mygig. "Mygig won't do this, it won't do that, i'm having a problem with this......." It sounds like Chrysler needs to come up with a better solution. I don't have Mygig. I have something similar, better, and have never had a single issue with it. My system has a great ipod interface, touch screen controls, sirius satellite radio, dvd player, usb hook up, backup camera, bluetooth module (with microphone mounted on windshield), the internal gps has the Garmin interface (can't get any better than Garmin). I could go on and on, but I won't.
Bottom line here....... If you're thinking about getting Mygig, I wouldn't. There are better solutions out there for cheaper. I understand if you already have it you'd want to do everything you can to make it work. But, there comes a point where you have to just say "enough is enough". I have friends who have sold theirs and gotten something else. Then you don't have to gripe about Mygig anymore. Save yourself the hassle.

A few things about the MyGig over a after market setup.
I like the fact that the Mygig is under my factory lifetime warranty. So when my on board HDD dies (and it will sooner or later) I get a new one for free forever! If it gets messed up while wheeling...no big deal its covered.. Not one of the after market kits are designed for off road use or protection against Shock (off road type shock), Dampness, Dust, and extreme temperatures.
Due to the canbus system you can not just use the MyGig in "any old" car or truck.
So what bothers me is when some one with stickey fingers looks at the dash and see's that after market system they are gonna have easy pickins if you have the top off or the soft top on. Then go home hook it up and it will work just fine. Not true with the MyGig..
And not to mention it it does get stolen from my Jeep I know that my insurance is going to only replace exactly what was in the jeep when I bought it. The only way they will replace the after market one is if I want to pay for extra coverage each month for the after market system
I am SO glad that I purchased the MyGig with my Jeep. The little issues are being worked out right now by Harmon Becker. This company is dedicated to making this a reliable piece of equipment.
let`s review
we have to use an aftermarket company to get the features that are built in.
example "Lockpick"
( who do we blame...Chrysler or Harmon B) i say BOTH are responsible
for lack of service and support
we do not have access to getting the latest software...
( i almost turned mine into a brick using the link for software upgrade
and they have not answerd any of my emails)
( who do we blame...Chrysler or Harmon B) i say BOTH are responsible
for lack of service and support
GPS Nav unit is a joke..
No Offroad Topo maps available...
( who do we blame...Chrysler or Harmon B) i say BOTH are repopnsible
for lack of service and support.
add in the latest .....aggravation for NAV being off 12 miles.
found out the window tint on front window that was just installed...
knocked out the Nav reception..nice!!
sum it up......
Unlock the radios ........
provide customers with Vin# direct updates
(remember Chrysler its covers for Lifetime)
Provide Nav Topos and the ability to remove useless areas of the map
that I will never ever use!!!
use that space for real mapping i can use.
i don`t give a "rats ass" where to get gas or find a place to eat
i do want to know where in the hell i am Off Road.
That is why I opted for a Garmin GPS instead of MyGig.. My Nuvi won't do bread crumbs tracking.. But I still can load and view topo maps.. But other Garmin GPS units will do everything from using a topo with tracking to plot a trail to helping you find a gas station or where a hotel is located.. And the price is a whole lot cheaper.. Granted it isn't encompassed with the stereo.. But it can be transported from one Jeep to another if need be.. Every factory GPS unit that I have seen (BMW, Mercedise Benz, Lexus, Jags, etc) has been crap... And the updates are freakin expensive.. Garmin updates $70 at any Circuit City or Best Buy.. And the street updates are for EVERY Garmin...

what i wanted was a built in touch screen....in the Jeep.
i have a Toughbook laptop with a earthmate and can use that..
it takes away a seat for use.
Jeep once again miss`s the market to have the best options available.

That is why I spent a little extra and got the graphite tint, no interference. But in my opinion, they should have spent the time and money to mount the antenna on top of the sound bar.
